Rum might not be the only bad guy around. Plus Wakita by no way looks like a monster.

You know what Rumi now doesn't seem like Asaka anymore. (This whole fight is sort of a prelude to Rum and that would mean this is happening after Kohji's death. Rumi clearly has partnered up with Tsutomu.)
I agree, this just reminds me of how the old man passing in the car was confirmed to be Karasuma by most because of the matching silhouette. Here Wakasa seems to be confirmed without any doubt to be Asaka by the readers because of the hairstyle and the attire.

Basically there is nothing to conclude from this flashback other than the fact that Wakasa Rumi have met Tsutomo Akai at some point in the past, and that they encountered a certain "monster" back then. (Tsutomo however seems to have encountered/known that monster before the events of this flashback since he was aware of their ability and telling Rumi to back off accordingly)

Asaka's identity is still up to speculation for me, if anything, like yourself, I have more doubt about them being Wakasa than before. That said, I imagine that we'll know for certain who Asaka is when we get a flashback including Amanda and her bodyguard, probably from the bodyguard POV.

Also there was an object that was tied to Asaka which is the hand mirror, I think we should keep an eye for this detail.

What I speculate now is the following:

The monster that Tsutomo is talking about here is none other than Asaka acting as a BO agent and probably as Rum's right hand at that time (sort of like Curaçao in m20), as for when this flashback is taking place, I think it is during the Miyano lab burning incident.

Tsutomo did encounter Asaka sometime before that flashback, probably during a faceoff against Rum when Asaka stepped in to protect/defend Rum as his close agent.

Haibara/shiho did speculate that Asaka was most likely a BO agent.

In short Asaka could be Iori during his infiltration mission, he used the alias Sakakibara, and probably Amanda shortened it to Asaka to make it easier for her when he served as her bodyguard per Rum's command (interestingly I have noticed some non Japanese youtubers struggling to spell his past alias when it was revealed)

I think that after the events of this flashback, with Wakasa gone from the scene, Iori and Tsutomo clashed briefly then managed to reach some kind of agreement or plan. (This maybe interesting for the Kuroda=Tsutomo theory supporters)

Wakasa however may still have the idea that Asaka is a bad guy maybe even thinks he is Rum as her name"Wakasa Rumi" suggests, which is close to the reading "Asaka Rum" than to "Karasuma", she could be using this name to lure Asaka out, now that she feels experienced and confident enough to face him off.

Moreover, Wakasa maybe didn't take Tsutomo's advice immediately, and attacked Asaka/Iori recklessly which resulted in her damaged eye.

Honestly I can see this happening especially if Gosho is taking the Sebastian Michaelis/Iori reference seriously: a monstrous entity serving a pirate-like character (appearance-wise) at some point in their existence.

In fact Gosho did comment on the characters strength chart that there is still another character who is very strong to the point that they will seem belonging to another manga, he maybe referring to Iori or Tsutomo.

Yes you're correct. Tsutomu was hired by Kohji's dad after the murder. So by no means it is happening at the Juke Hotel. The Rumi + Tsutomu vs the demon in the darkness is possibly happening after Tsutomu had reached USA, investigated the case, enlisted Rumi as an ally and then encountered this demon.
But as you've mentioned Tsutomu had prior intel on this demon. Also Tsutomu trusted Rumi.

Now it's interesting that this new person could be Asaka/Iori/pre-coma Kuroda (who looked different) and not Rum. Cause Wakita doesn't come off as a monster, rather a sly fox. Brawns is not his department.

But there is one person whom Rumi shot a death glare, Kuroda. Kuroda showed nothing of interest but if I were to make a guess the monster whom the duo fought might have looked like Kuroda.
The question would be whether he is the current Kuroda who bosses Amuro or not ?

Iori shows typical bodyguard like behaviour, like checking the perimeter after coming out of the car. Plus inspecting and disinfecting both terms are associated with bodyguarding/security police, not police detectives. So both the guys have some history regarding bodyguarding. So Asaka can be one of them.

But just like you I lean more towards Iori.

Text spoilers courtesy of CLO (@8CLO8):
Spoiler:
"Conan is on the cover holding the blanket.
Investigations continue and Conan exposes the trick by applying it to Ayumi.
As for the killer, the motive of the murder is to avenge the death of her brother after his involvement with the Yakuza. As the Yakuza demanded her to compensate for the money they lost because of her brother.
After that,  the Yakuza comes and Wakasa tries to fight them, but Subaru asks her to back off and fights them and tells her to take the children to a safe place. Wakasa remembers what happened in the past with Tsutomu. Wakasa closes the door on the children and fought some of the Yakuza members, after which Conan and Subaru are surprised that Wakasa is with the Yakuza members lying on the ground."
We can expect 1,100 spoilers and a new case around September 23rd.

Thanks for the correction, I'll amend the date in my prior post.

Ah... finally things getting a bit exciting and according to spoiler RUM may appear in file 1100? link here==> https://www.instagram.com/p/Cg4g7Nrt_88/
So... is RUM the monster or is someone else the monster? ::)
I've heard another spoiler that how RUMI, RUM, and Kuroda each lost their one eye would also be explained soon, so looking forward to that as well...
On another note, if RUMI and Tsutomu indeed fought Iori as a pair, and he didn't end up losing an eye, then he sure is fitting to being a "monster" ;D

Didn't Gosho only say that Rum's loss of eye would be drawn ? Obviously how Kuroda and Rumi lost their eyes are integral to their backstory. Which will also come out soon.
