I was touched that they could finally get a kiss between them. But that's the climax of romance that Gosho can put into a genre like Conan... Gosho can't put up dating scenes between secondary characters especially when there's supposed to be a mystery/murder each chapter, which would really ruin the dating part.

The Detective Boys weren't even around when Conan, of all people, ruined their moment in the Hammerman case.  (He still made up for it here.)

I guess Gosho decided he couldn't drag things out forever and now was a good time to make this step.  Shinichi/Ran may be locked in status quo out of necessity but that doesn't mean he can't allow the secondary characters to actually have an active romantic subplot.

It could mean that something bad is around the corner, though.
