Volumes 40-43

I have a question about Volumes 40-43. In these Volumes it is revealed that Shuichi Akai and Jodie are from the FBI, looking for Sherry (Haibara Ai).
At that time Akai is in possession of a picture including Conan, Ai, and the rest of the Detective Boys, which means that he knew that Conan had something to do with Ai. I can understand that didn't necessarily know this name, but he had a picture of him.
How come that Jodie wasn't aware of that connection. She knows Conan for a long time, she would of course recognized him. Jodie being FBI and Akai's partner would make me think that she had to know about that. Reading these volumes again showed me that Jodie didn't. Why?

Another question is: Is it anywhere in these Volumes revealed about what happened in Volume 29 during the bus-bombing-case? I know that Araide was actually Vermouth trying to find Ai, but didn't any of these two (Araide/Vermouth and Jodie) find out who the other one was, since they were so close to another?

OK, that's makes more sense but there are still some things that don't match up:

With the FBI looking for Vermouth, why does Akai have a picture of Conan and the Detective Boys in his car, that has nothing to do with the FBI's objective?
Or why is Jodie so interested in Ai only by the fact that she is a girl with brown hair? How does that connect to Vermouth?

Off-Topic: I'm from Germany and still learning English and I'm curious: You said: "The FBI are", is that just like police, is FBI plural? And does that go for all the Agencies like CIA, NSA, DEA, NCIS etc.??

I´m pretty sure that it mentions somewhere in volume 42 that The FBI were at Vermouth hiding place and that they found the picture of Shiho (18year old Ai) there. Vermouth noticed that but didn´t do anything because she hoped that the FBI would find Sherry after they had seen her picture. Jodie was interested in Ai because she noticed that she looked very similar to the woman in the picture.

Akai was mostly interessted in her because she looked similar to the sister of his dead girl friend (Akemi=Ai´s sister) and he knew Shiho from his BO time. He probably also heard from Jodie that Vermouth was looking for a brown haired woman.

I hope that made sense  -it´s pretty late and i´m getting tired...

But still, Akai and Jodie were colleagues, weren't they? Why didn't they exchange information? How come Akai didn't call Jodie after seeing Conan on TV. I'd imagine he had to know where Jodie is, and that she is nearer to his place? + How come she didn't even know about Conan's connection, because if she did, this whole volume wouldn't make any sense.

And can someone clear that grammar thing for me, please?

You are thinking too much about the photograph and not enough about the circumstances in which it is taken. 

Note that Yukiko is also in the picture, since the "Secret Developers" case was the first time the detective boys and Ai met Conan's mother, the photograph must have been taken earlier that day just before they entered the building (right before Page 6 in Volume 41 Chapter 4).

The FBI agents WERE exchanging information with each other. In all likelihood, Akai shadowed Ai and took the photograph to confirm with either James Black or Jodie about the possibility of Ai being Sherry.

As far as we know Akai often worked without contacting or informing the others about what he is doing (Jodie complained to James about not being able to contact Shuuichi and it is also mentioned that they don´t know where Akai got his information on Ethan Hondou from).
Another reason might be that they probably didn´t meet too often because Jodie´s cover would have been blown if Vermouth would have seen her meeting with Shuuichi. Maybe they both just reported to James without actually meeting.

They showed Conan on TV while he was at that department store and Jodie was actually at there at the same time with Ran and Sonoko. After she saw the brown haired girl in the car she did go to Agasa´s place with the professor and Ai, while Conan solved a case.

Jodie most likely DID recognize Conan, which led to the entire showdown with Vermouth one volume later.

As I said before, the photo was taken earlier that day, Akai and the FBI only came to the conclusion that Ai = Sherry after this case.

I'm confused about Akai trying to get to the Haido Centre as fast as possible like his life is depening on it, while Jodie is there and she doesn't even care about Conan.

Conan was NOT the target of Akai or Jodie; Akai was following Ai.

Up to this point, Jodie was following Vermouth (disguised as Dr. Araide) and Akai was following Ai (or more accurately, tracking down clues about Sherry and Gin).

Before their confrontation with Vermouth one volume later, Conan was just a "person of interest" to them, nothing more.
(Afterwards Conan became "Sherry's boyfriend" to them )

Before their confrontation with Vermouth, Jodie and Akai were not certain whether Ai = Sherry, which was WHY Akai was investigating her.

After meeting Vermouth, the FBI definitely knows that Ai is Sherry, and most likely about APTX 4869 as well.

They also probably know that Conan was another victim of the drug, but there is no evidence so far that they know Conan = Shinichi.
Jodie does hold all of the pieces to the puzzle to Conan's identity. However if she does not know about the existence of Ai's prototype antidotes for APTX 4869. then she may also have been fooled into believing that Conan and Shinichi are two different people. (i.e. She saw both Shinichi and Conan (Ai in disguise) together)

There's a topic in the General Discussion board asking the same thing if you want to check it out. But to repeat what I said there, maybe I missed something but I haven't seen any evidence that the FBI knows that Ai is Sherry. The FBI knew that Vermouth was after Sherry but does not know that Ai is Sherry, to them Ai was another target of Vermouth(possibily related to Sherry) which is why the offered to put her in the witness protection program. If the actually knew Ai was Sherry, they would be questioning her for information about the B.O. and be focusing on the APTX4869, but they are not. The only person in the FBI that has a feeling that Ai is Sherry, is Akai but that is for personal reasons and he will probably not inform the FBI after he confirms it, again, for personal reasons.

So if the FBI can't figure out that Ai is Sherry(can't blame them) they are nowhere close into thinking Conan is Shinichi. To them, Ai was just another target of the B.O. and Conan is a bright kid for his age.

There were several reasons for Conan to be suspicious of Araide. Most important in my mind was Araide supposedly sending his elderly grandmother and self-neglecting housekeeper ahead of him to Aomori. Would the guy we saw in volume 24 really trust them to seek the care of a new doctor in a new place rather than simply keep them around so he could check on them himself?

I don't know whether he knew Jodie was FBI, but she said it herself that he wanted her to expose Araide's true identity before he'd trust her.
