Disappointed when considering the amount of hype it had. I thought the storyline was decent but would've preferred if they had gone to the DC OVA 1 route.

I've been trying to figure that out too. Shinichi is only ever mentioned in Ran's daydream. Kid at least bugged the phone lines on the ship and head Agassa address Conan as Shinichi.
