I knew it wasn't actually her who was the murderer (saying this before actually watching the episode, typical Conan structure + forced shocking ending to the previous episode. Watching Flash Forward has made me so cynical towards surprising endings to an episode).
I think it's not appreciated just how effective the effects used are in this series. Like you have that fictional detective but he's THE KILLER and his killer persona is facing behind with a red spot light on him and it's real simple and basic but it works.
...ok the reason for suicide kinda kills the actual case...but that was probably the least interesting part of this entire scenerio anyway so...
OH WAIT WHAT. Ok, that's pretty clever, lying to the guy. Part of me was worried the plot being back would mean less interesting cases, but honestly I just love this story was done. Like I said last time, this was such a breath of fresh air and yeah it's a plot case, but this is what I was talking about. I wanted something more different from this series, something to keep my interest other than just neverending murder cases with fairly typical structure. And considering the arc, it's very rare I'm genuinely surprised as much as I was with this (and I even knew the details before, so that's saying something). That's been the problem with Conan in recent years not that it's been anything other than almost as great as it's always been (AOs and self-parody relationship stories aside), it's really just been the EXACT SAME it's always been and abandoning the one thing that has a long term point made it worse, even when the cases got better. There's probably some hyperbole but regardless, this is all I was asking for. Some clever twists to some of the cases and the plot to still exist in some form. At the end of the day, that's all I needed.
...watch as this entire case is a ripoff of something...
OMG THE NEXT EPISODE. CAMEL!!!!
