It's okay, I don't have a grudge against Haibara =D And I didn't mean to offend you (or her), if that's how you perceived it.
That's just my opinion of the whole situation and it's not that that I don't like the character of Haibara. She's definitely not my favourite one, but I don't believe I have to find a character likeable to enjoy its presence within the series.

No you didn’t offend me at all, Haibara is just a fictional character and I don’t know why I (or her) should be offended. I said that being fan of that character, I couldn’t agree with some of what you said. That was just a discussion, NOT an argument. If you felt like I was arguing, then sorry but I didn’t mean it at all.

Same here, I don’t like Ran’s character and don’t think I’ll ever do, but I enjoy her presence in the series just like any other character. When I started watching the series, Haibara wasn’t even there, still I could watch 128 episodes and enjoyed them even though I didn’t like Ran, so no big deal, DC rocks anyway! ^^

It only seems obvious to me that Ran is Shinichi's most beloved person and will remain being that.

It's obvious to me too and to everyone who watches DC. But I don't like this couple and many others don't, it's just like that.

I've simply got the feeling that his rescues for Ran outnumber those he did for other individuals, but since I haven't counted, that might be wrong. (Would still surprise me though. xD)

You're right, and that's because Ran is the most character who gets hold as hostage in like every movie and who's in danger is soooo many cases. It's normal that she's the most rescued by Conan then!

And sorry - if you're so angry about what I wrote about Haibara (even though it was never meant to be an insult...): you didn't write very flattering things about Ran either. I like her better than Ai, with you it's the other way round. So what?
I don't think that Ran is THAT naive and "simple-minded", either...=D
But probably morbid is a bit too strong an expression, you're right. I'll stick to "complicated" though. But I never claimed she didn't have good reasons for that.
I hope it's obvious this is not supposed to be an argument but rather a discussion. Since we both have our views, we won't agree in any case.

As I said in the beginning, I'm not angry or anything, I just didn't agree with some of your words like "morbid", etc. Maybe I sounded kinda harsh and it made you feel that I was upset, but that's not true: I had a bad day yesterday, so I think it got reflected in my writing style, sorry again.
And As you said, we don't have to agree but I think it's a forum and we can discuss? As long as it doesn't turn out to an argument, everything'll be fine. You have your preferences and I have mines, fair enough!

I guess what I was tyring to say is that what people "get" and what is actually "shown" in the anime has a really big difference.  Especially when you're shipping a couple.  When people like characters, they have a tendency to see things that aren't really there... 

I think I'm old enough to "get" the difference between what is and what isn't. I didn't say that Conan is in love with Haibara, I only said that I like this un-official couple. So no, I'm not that desperate to start imagining things, and I don't love fictional characters that much to tend to "see" things that aren't real. ^^

I don't want to speak this, but any thread comparing these two pairings are asking for a flame war. APTX, for example, has so much trauma over these flame wars that discussions slightly close to this are banned.

There has been many threads on this topic around here and so far they have been civil.  I think everyone thinks this as well so only new members make posts like these.

I don't think the person who made this thread asks for a flame war. You see, that's the problem, everytime people see two dudes discussing different points of view, they automatically think that they're arguing or willing to start a war. Anyways, I, "the non-civilized new(?) member", am sorry for causing this trouble.

We all know that RanXShinichi is how it's gonna end: DC is a "classic" anime where the male hero will definitely end up with the female hero, it was obvious since the first episode. However, I can't help but voting for AiXConan/ShihoXShinichi, this couple is just so cute and they fit perfectly with each other. Ran is a nice character but that's it. Ai is more interesting and is a really awesome character! She's deep and suicidal (^^) and even though she has feelings for Conan, she always tries to help him with Ran. Besides, she's in the same intellectual level as Conan, they understand each other very well and they're in the same situation (kinda because of Ai and yes she kinda ruined his life but still.. ^^). Well, it just seems to me that Ai is the perfect match for Conan.

I agree that DC is a "classic" anime/manga. Relative to the shounen manga/anime I've seen/read so far, a typical characteristic of shounen romance is that once the male hero decides on a girl to fall for, he sticks with her till the end (there may be some exceptions) such as Rurouni Kenshin, Naruto (Naruto loves Sakura till the end - no matter how much fans push Naruto and Hinata together [I'm one of them]), Flame of Recca, Yu Yu Hakusho, etc. Shounen obviously isn't like Shoujo where one little rival makes the protagonist indecisive about who to end up with. Shounen romance (NOT shounen-ai) tends to be very predictable once the male protagonist chooses a girl. Again, there will be some exceptions.

In anime like Bleach and Full Metal Panic, there tends to be questions about the romance because the male protagonist hasn't obviously indicated who he wants to end up with in the end. So, I guess, one could say that shounen romance (Again, NOT shounen-ai) is very dependent on the male's emotions (as espected since it is shounen) and they tend to be portrayed as strong, unwavering love.

Although, I also see where Conan x Ai fans are coming from. It is quite unrealistic at the moment for Shinichi and Ran to get together officially and Haibara does seem very close to Conan and understands most of what he's thinking. But if they didn't find an antidote, Shinichi probably wouldn't let go of Ran at all. Yes, he'll come to terms with the fact that he's never going to be with her but he'll always be in love with her even if he does end up with Haibara. Probably about 50% of his feelings will still go out to Ran, if not more.

So, therefore, I think that Shinichi x Ran is the better couple and the most likely couple to last until the end.

*Ahem* Back to the topic. Yes, I definitely support ShinichixRan, because that's canon. (At least is until volume 50, I don't know what'll happen after that, because our library is very is so slow at getting the newest volumes, and only vols up to 53 have been translated to Finnish.)
I also highly support ConanxAi, because that's very cute, and most likely to happen if ShinichixRan doesn't for some reason happen. (and it really is canon if you bend the canon a little, notice all the littlest things and add 1+1=3 ) I think that MitsuhikoxAi is also very cute and quite likely to happen, if Ai for some reason doesn't manage to (or doesn't want to) make the antidote to APTX.

Off topic again, but does anyone know any good ConanxAi fanfics? I haven't managed to find any really good ones, just some 'somewhat good' ones. Please post a link if you've found some. Arigatô!

Ai and Conan/Shiho and Shinichi make a great couple. I mean they have so many things in common and have also been through alot together. I'm not trying to say that Ran is bad or anything I mean Ran is a very kind and sweet girl who pretends to be happy everyday when she's not and I don't really hate her or anything(I kinda feel sorry for her sometimes).
