ranger wrote:For example: Kogorou is a good character of someone with good strengths and good flaws.  Obviously, he's a slacker/drunkard who relies on his daughter as a maid.  From the naked eye, he acts kind of like a dotard, with his constant physical abuse of Conan, and "disrespect" for his currently separated wife.  However, Kogorou, when he puts his mind to it, or if it's on a relevant subject that interests him, shows his genius.  Multiple times he figures out cases even before Conan, which utterly shocks him.  Plus, his love for his daughter and true adoration for Eri shows that he truly is a honest man with honorable intentions and ethics.  The transition he can go from being a total goofball to a wise detective is admirable.

I won't go into Shinichi's...perfection, but I will say this: I whole heartedly agree with the above

I love when Kogorou's honest side shows. It's sooo great. ...it's actually the reason I'm disappointed there hasn't been more then just that one fleeting moment where he suspected Conan wasn't what he seemed D: In manga form, it literally lasted a page. ...Maybe two

I think Shinichi is like Bruce Wayne-powerful and smart.I think if he must fight he would beat everyone included Makoto because he learned some foreign Fighting style in Hawaii.

Actually, now that I think about it, that'd be a great way for Ran to finally give her answer to Shinichi

Shinichi: Do be doo~
Random guys: WE'RE GONNA BEAT YOU TO HOLY HELL
Shinichi: AGH, WHAT? THAT'S SUCH AN OXYMORON
Random guys: Call us DUMB, will you!? D<
Shinichi: *trying to fight back but just can't* DDD:
Ran: *bursts into the scene* HIYAAAAAAAAH *starts kicking ass*
Random guys: FLEEE DDD:
Ran: THAT'S RIGHT YOU'D BETTER RUN

Haha xD

Ran: ...Oh yeah, btw, I like you back Shinichi. ...Hence why I saved your sorry butt there

THE END

And they both lived happily ever after...except Shinichi. He was already pretty badly beaten up by the time Ran got there :V

Main character of a shonen series has too little flaws? WHAT A TWIST.

Seriously, outside of Naruto, shonen protagonists are required to always be the coolest guy in the room at all times.

Which is why I usually read the Magical Girl stuff. :P A good writer will typically give them flaws. The flaws are often played for character development. XD

i'm not sure if i'd say he's very smart. he's very crafty and has a good understanding of how people do things, but even when his "switch is flipped" he doesn't really become some sort of master detective or wizard of deduction.
Detective Movies Contest 2013: Information Thread  Current Faceoff

"The energies of our system will decay; the glory of the sun will be dimmed, and the earth, tideless and inert, will no longer tolerate the race which has for a moment disturbed its solitude. Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."
