Seriously, outside of Naruto, shonen protagonists are required to always be the coolest guy in the room at all times.

Which is why I usually read the Magical Girl stuff. :P A good writer will typically give them flaws. The flaws are often played for character development. XD

which is why I read seinen

Wait..that means DC is seinen..what have I been missing?! Are there hidden messages in the cases??!! *head implodes

No but this is the last shonen that I am reading. I dropped all others. I mean this is in shonen Sunday...

Lest we are talking comedy, I do read shonen comedy.

But he's far from perfect.
Besides his terrible singing abilities, I recall the "ayumi kidnapping case", and also he often ask Ran questions relating to arts, didn't know the meaning of "xxx" etc

Xxx has nothing to do with the arts. That was an English colloquial thing shinichi didn't know. Likely because it has to do with relationships (kissing) though Gosho could have also been alluding to porn, but that is doubtful.

fact is that, though he had flaws, most are superficial, which makes him a boring character.

When mentionning the 'xxx' I wasn't relating it to the arts, but Conan doesn't have knowledge about music (exept violin & notes) and painting/drawing

Musical notes and the ability to read them are...kind of a big deal.

And I think Shinichi actually does prove in an episode he knows a bit about art.  With the one episode where the culprit used bread as an eraser or something.  Anyways, just because he doesn't know about one tiny obscure subject that his massive library brain doesn't encompass doesn't count as a flaw.  Kyuu is right.

I think Shinichi is "good enough" as a fighter.  As in, he's not particularly interested in getting extremely fit and excellent at fighting.  He joined soccer so he'll be fast on his feet, kick with accuracy, dodge quickly, KO someone with a globe, err...swing from tree to tree like Tarzan (is this what kids learn nowadays in soccer?), et etc...

(Which is kinda a stupid idea on his part since he has a tendency to rush into danger by himself without telling anyone /facepalm)

As for Shinichi's perfectness.  The boy is just someone who would give his all to do things, so much so that Ran calls him a creepy detective prince.  Ran mentioned in Ch1 that he could be a famous soccer star if he really wanted to, he just doesn't feel like it.  Shinichi is quite irritating in that aspect (lololol yea I'm so hardworking and talented that I can be a famous soccer star I just don't feel like it lololol.), but he's not the only genius super star in the series.  Heiji, Shiho, Saguru, Kaito, and recently ____ and _____.   They're all better then everyone else, but good people generally.

As for the music thing, I think he wasn't as good in music at the beginning of the series (Moonlight Sonata).  The reason for that can be that he doesn't like his old music teacher and found music to be boring.  After music became important though (7 children song, music cases etc) he took it more seriously and trained himself to get good at it.

Hey, I have an idea, let's have a THIS SUCKS / NO THIS SUCKS / NO YOU / NO YOU argument for a couple pages, that will really be great. - Ingmar

Yeah, the one with the photos I knew about but
WHOA I NEVER SAW THAT ONE :O

*respects Kogorou even more*

(Late reply, sorry :x)
Yeah, ditto, they got rid of it in the anime version of the case so I only saw it when I got sidetracked a few days ago when searching for a different case and ended up reading the manga version of it :x. That's part of the reason why I prefer the manga version of this case (though there is some pretty nice animation in the anime version :D, especially the bit with Conan kneeling on the chair). I have to wonder if this will be thought back on if there's ever a Kogorou suspicion arc, after all Conan never bothered to disprove his suspicions in this case and we wouldn't have even known he thought there was something weird about Conan if it weren't for hearing his thoughts/his occasional sarcastic remark on Conan's TV excuse :x, another plot hole created by anime editing D:?!. Well, the point is that Kogorou is awesome (at least IMO :P) :D
