Is Shinichi a good combat fighter?

Postby The Mask » November 28th, 2011, 2:24 pm

One thing that I normally don't associate Shinichi with is combat sports.

Though I did use him as my imaginary sparring partner during karate classes, I haven't really seen Shinichi engage himself in karate. Apart from that, I haven't seen him throw a punch to someone also, or grapple with someone. He kicks, but he kicks a soccer ball while fighting someone. And though he (as Conan) has been dressed up as a karate fighter and as a pro-wrestler with a cowboy gimmick in some manga covers, he hasn't actually engaged himself with combat sports.

Maybe I haven't seen that many episodes yet, but I wonder: has Shinichi ever done something that you can associate with combat fighting? Like a punch, a kick, a grappling maneuver, or even the use of a kendo stick?

In the 13th movie, Conan was a pretty badass fighter

But if were'r talking about canon, Shinichi is shown to be able to name combat/martial arts techniques several times, has dodged Ran's kicks in chapter 1, can jump from trees to trees like a ninja in the Shiranami case and Ran once stated that his kick power is greater then her's.

Aside that, I don't think of any other thing

None that I recall. Just kicking the crap out of a soccer ball at various people. He's pretty accurate it seems using a gun if you consider the chapter in Magic Kaito (Shin'ichi vs Kid at the clock tower) as canon. (As for the movies (2 and 13) aren't canon so those don't count.) As Maitre pointed out he is skilled at evasion.

Well, it's one thing to name techniques and another thing to perform it. Just like Takagi; he's a pro-wrestling fan, and yet I haven't seen him perform any pro-wrestling move yet.

And I gotta agree that he is good at evading, which is still a good skill in life. Reminds me of Sun Tzu's Art of War, though I forgot what passage it was supposed to be.

Well, in the Shiragami-sama case...
Spoiler: boxed for space

In case anyone is unfamiliar with the case, 'Shinichi' isn't actually Shinichi, 'Shiragami-sama' is :x

Otherwise, he mostly uses his footballs or kicks other things at people...

Yeah, but he's probably a musical prodigy.

Scumbag Gosho

Yeah my main character has a good balance of strengths and weaknesses for character development..

...one flaw is bad at singing.

...

It wouldn't surprise me if Gosho writes a case in which Shinichi goes up against a martial artist champion, where he comes out as the winner using some sort of obscure fighting technique...then explains it off with him having learning it by his father in Hawaii. . .or something like that. :P

he's not good at singing, but he has absolute pitch, so close enough.

Hmm...I guess that qualifies.

Well, I do know one very prominent 19th century Asian historical figure who is a prodigy at a lot of things, but supposedly sings as if it came from a horse's mouth. So it's a reasonable flaw.

That sounds interesting. But then again, the closest combat sport that I can associate with Hawaii is sumo wrestling, mainly because of the sumo wrestler Akebono. But could you imagine Shinichi sumo wrestling?!

If he has perfect pitch, why did he Asked the violin guy about what note was being played in the BO Boss' cellphone ring?
