NOOOOOOOO!!!!

Postby Aokochan » November 28th, 2011, 10:29 am

:'(  :'( :'( :'( :'( Today, as usually, I was watching DC in TV in catalan, my language. I was watching episode 561(514 in english), called ""Coffee Aroma with Murderous Intention (Part 2)". They pass to episodes on TV each day, in order, but today, after this episode, they have emmited episode 1! I didn't know what happened, so I have searched the list of catalan translated DC episodes and I've realized they have only translated the first 514 episodes! And episode 514 was translated into catalan in 2008! Why the heck did they stop translating this AWESOME anime?? Well, I think now I will watch Detective Conan in English, through the internet. But I loved the catalan voices so much!  :'( Well, thanks to DCTP I will be able to continue watching it!  :)
(I know this should be in the Bad Stories thread, but it was so shocking for me that I had to make a thread about it :P)

I can relate. After getting into Detective Conan (well um at the time I watched it English dub so Case Closed) I was so excited after I found out how many episodes & movies & stuff there were. I thought yay I'm going to be busy for a while. Six days later I found myself crying because I reached English episode 130. I'm like what's up with this? It took me probably 2 weeks to convince myself to watch it subbed. It's really hard for me to read without my reading glasses & I can't exactly wear them while watching a video but I like the subs here because many of them were nice & big & I could read them very easily without pausing. Very sad to hear that you reached the end though.

I'm happy you understand me. But what I don't like most is not being able to see the episodes in my language. I can watch them in english subs or in spanish, but in english I don't understand everything, so maybe I will have to look up some words on the dictionary, and on the other hand I don't like the voices in spanish. T_T Well, I suppose it's also good to hear the original voices, but I love so much the catalan voices! Well, I haven't seen all the episodes in catalan yet, but I prefer to see new ep. than the old ones.

Yeah that must stink. There are times when I'm fortunate that the only language that I know is English. I came across an episode in Spanish & I watched the first minute of it just to hear the voices & yeah I agree I didn't like them. I wish I could help out somehow but I didn't even know about Catalan before meeting you so I obviously can't speak any of it at all. There are times when it would be nice to have Conan's voice changing bowtie. It would be even cooler if you could hook it up to your computer & program it to change the voices to the ones you know & like so you could watch it in Spanish.

Maybe it's time to pick up some Japanese ^^ *hug*
I hate it to when local TVs stop airing/translating anime in the middle of nowhere… It happened to Slam Dunk, Full Metal Panic, and Hunter X Hunter in my country (last time). I am not sure about DC though, since I've switched to watching DCTP's subbed episodes for a very long time.

You know if your out of school & have the time maybe you should attempt to pick up Japanese although it sounds like it might be difficult because you know a couple other languages too. I only know one language & I will make it my goal to learn another & because I've spent so much time watching Detective Conan I think I might try learning a little bit of Japanese although it sounds so hard! I haven't even attempted to learn it yet & already I'm confused by it.

When you watch enough subbed Conan, some Japanese will be stuck in your head. For example:
犯人 (hannin = criminal) and 凶器(kyouki = murder weapon)
lol yeah! With an addition of a basic Japanese language course or a good basic grammar/phrasebook, you're good to go. However, it takes a whole lot more if you want to get to the level of understanding the Japanese puns/tricks (that's what subs are for ^^)

Well, for now my plans are to continue studying English(and spanish and catalan too, of course). Then, when I have more time, I will continue studying french, because I have already been learning it for six years, but this year I don't take french curses because at school we had to choose between english and french, and I took the first option, and I don't have enough time to do extracurricular french classes at the moment. Maybe I will learn Japanese when I get tired of learning english and french! ;) But I think it has to be very difficuñt, because a friend of my father is japanese, and she's like in her thirties or forties but she still doesn't know how to write all the words in japanese! BTW, she has had two children with a catalan, and they're so cute! I love japanese babies! :3
But if you havee time to study japanese, go ahead, and teach me some words! ;)
Jaa ne!(see you soon!)

Learning any language is quite difficult once you are over a certain age (10-12 or so)- after that point you do it through memory and by mentally analogizing, though it is somewhat easier to learn languages that are related to ones that you already know.

Trying to learn a language using anime episodes is a fantastic way to not actually learn anything.
Detective Movies Contest 2013: Information Thread  Current Faceoff

"The energies of our system will decay; the glory of the sun will be dimmed, and the earth, tideless and inert, will no longer tolerate the race which has for a moment disturbed its solitude. Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."

Yes, I agree. In a museum they explained that if you learn a language when you are younger, it is placed in the same place of the brain as your first language, so it's easier to learn it. But if you learn it when you are older, it is placed in a different zone of the brain, and this makes it more difficult.
Well, the good point of not being able to see more DC episodes in catalan, is that I will learn English and Japanese at the same time! :)

Hmmm…I shall correct myself then to prevent any misunderstanding. I would say that watching a substantial number of episodes will "condition" you to be good enough to deduce what is going on, because usually an anime will have some repetitive stock phrases that are key to the genre. However, I agree that it is nowhere near good enough to be useful in real life, especially due to the complexity of Japanese language that even some foreigners who have been living in Japan for years find difficult to grasp.

I wasn't talking about language learning in general, but more in the context of Aokochan's predicament of not being able to find DC episodes in the language that she is comfortable with.

It happened to me too. At first, I hated it, but after I watch the anime with it's original audio, I realized how bad was the "latin american dub". You should watch the sub version, nothing is better than the original audio. And, if there's not a catalan sub, you can always improve your english watching the english sub! :)

Yes, the catalan audio! XD

You're right! Well, at least I have noticed there are lots of episodes subbed in Spanish, wich I understand as well as catalan. But if I don't find an episode subbed in spanish, I will watch it in English. (I like to read in english, because it helps me a lot to improve it!)

I've gotten started on sort of learning Japanese. I'd like to buy Rosetta Stone but I definitely don't have the money. Not enough money to even take classes. There's a reason why I'm not in college right now. Well that & I'm too lazy. Whenever you have some free time I can give you some links to some sites that I'm using. Although I imagine with learning English & French it would be hard to pick up another language.

I'd like to learn French as well seeing that my dad's side of the family came from the part of Canada that speaks French but my grandpa was the one who spoke it & he died before I was born. French seems too hard so I probably won't pick it. Japanese is hard too but I think it's more interesting.
