Haha, OVA 1 was canon crack in the way only Gosho Aoyama can do it.

OVA 1 and 9 were in dream verse. Best OVAs usually occur in nightmares, since they can easily disregard sanity.

(OVA 9 had a few recaps of several good moments in canon, another aspect that made it better than many of the other OVAs.)

Except OVA 4 was from the sane part of Magic Kaito, therefore it is slightly less awesome.

Gosho's hand in the OVAs improves them immensely. Even if it's probably unintentional.

Then, out of OVAs that were fully original, only OVA 9 seemed decent.

(Back to OVA 11, it might have been more enjoyable if the Shonen Tantei figured out Ai in a dream. Since OVAs are essentially fanservice, and OVA 9 has done one of those similar concepts (Possible future occurrence through a dream), I don't see why not. )

This is only my 2nd OVA, so I can't really compare it against others.

In overall, it looks like a light & entertaining OVA to watch. Light detective plot, some funny moments, nothing really offensive. The make up thing fits with the story line, the deduction is meant to be funny, looks like it's G-rated to me. Ayumi wanting to try on makeup make sense. She's a little girl after all.

I'm not sure what some people are complaining about. Does the story make sense? Probably not really. But that's not the only story that doesn't make sense. I'm not talking only in DC-universe.

Watching this, I was slightly disappointed. Not, as in, I HATE IT disappointed, more like "it-wasn't-as-funny-as-I-thought-it'd-be" disappointed. I mean, it was still kind of funny, but OVA 9 made me cry and OVA 10 had me almost rolling on the floor laughing...so...

It wasn't a lot to remember, but still kind of good.

I liked this OVA because it was funny.  The make-up thing I didn't find strange either because I'm sure many girls like to try on their mothers' or older sisters' makeup.  It's completely normal for young girls to play dress up and things like that, especially girly ones. Ayumi is incredibly girly.  What would you expect of her?

Anyway, I like how Mitsuhiko figured everything out for the most part.  I always did like him best out of the Shounen Tantei.  I do wish there could've been something else more on Okiya, but oh well.  Maybe they'll do something with his character sooner or later.

The way I looked at it, it centered around Mitsuhiko and Ai [which is my favorite pairing] And it did have Mitsuhiko some-what figure out who Ai really is. Granted it did fail if you compare it to canon Conan anime/manga, but hey at least it was there and there were a few good parts to it.

I enjoyed this OVA, too. Honestly, I find it too hard to NOT enjoy anything with Ai-chan in it.  Extreme bias is extreme.

I thought it was fun and cute, although I admit some parts were extreme, and I think Ai would know better than to put make-up on her 7-year-old persona. It was an OVA, though, so it wasn't really supposed to be actually rational, I suppose.

Why?  Why shouldn't she?  Ayumi was there and wanted to play with the makeup.  I find Ai playing along very realistic given the circumstances.  Young girls do that. It's completely normal.  For her not to, would make her stand out (to Ayumi, imo).
