Detective Conan BONUS Discussion Thread (Movie 8, re-release)

Postby kkslider5552000 » June 16th, 2011, 7:26 am

the entire point of the post is that I didn't feel like double posting in the actual thread.  ;D

Anyway, I personally have never seen Movie 8 before and I can't remember even anyone's reaction to it other than a couple of people saying it's when the movie quality really started to decline and other people being "OMG Kid".

This was a completely average (below average even) movie for the last 2/3 (first 1/3 was Kid being awesome and some decent inevitable suspect introductions and the like), that's only made any better than that because

1. Kid is awesome.
2. I see how the Kid and Ran subplot was built on (again, I want more of that!) in Movie 14.
3. Some hilarious moments (fake Kid and Megure, Shiratori and Takagi admiring a random bridge).
4. It's Detective Conan.

I mean, this really felt like 3 movie ideas that weren't good enough for a full movie put together at the last minute. First you had the Kid plot, than the murder plot and then the disaster movie part. The Ran part makes this release good timing. Currently in the anime, we have a well done crying scene with ShinRan, in this movie we have a semi-similar scene except Ran acts whiny at such a stupid time and then out of nowhere "lol I like you Shinichi". Which is made pointless by the end anyway. My response, "what? why? I don't care. It was believable and understandable in London."

I often say I can forgive some parts of the movies for being stupid but those are fun. This was not that fun.

To quote a great man: Movie 8 is "right in that meaty part of the curve--not showing off, not falling behind."

The most memorable moment of that movie to me, other than Ran's temporary confession, is the bajillion police cars chasing the fake Kid.

Let's examine the truth of this statement.

3/5, 4/6, 2, 1, 9, 8, 12/13, 14/11, 10/7.

seems about right i suppose.

opinion: 6, 2, 13, 3/4, 1, 5, 14, 12, 8
if i was unbiased: 6, 4, 2/3, 12, 5/13, 1, 14, 8

Don't bother with 11. :-X

7 and 10 are worth a watch, and 9 is pretty cool.

7,10,11,12 were so bad, especially 10 (was anyone else confused as balls during the entire film?  I've talked about this with Kirite before, but my god it was so convoluted)

3 is still my favorite, with 4 close behind.

10 was a mess, but at least it was interesting.  11 didn't even get that much.  As for 7, I actually really enjoyed that one.  While there were some issues with things occurring in 12, I liked it waaay better than 11.  (And 5, for that matter.)

I agree - the case in 10 didn't make much sense, and the movie WAS a bit of a fanservice-fest, but at least it was entertaining, and had an enjoyable suspenseful atmosphere as well.

As for 8, it has always been one of my favorites. I can't wait to watch it in 1080p...
