help planning a Conan panel

Postby Spiritgal304 » June 8th, 2011, 9:03 pm

I'm thinking of doing a panel for Detective Conan at Tsubasacon this year.  (My home con.)  I would like to have a little help from the fandom in getting information to talk about at the panel.

Topics to talk about

~FUNImation's reason for changing the title to Case Closed and Americanizing it
~How long the manga and anime have been going in Japan
~Top story arcs...
~Conan in other countries (other then Japan and US)
~Fansubs!
~And more when I can think of some or have help thinking of

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.  Also any suggestions as to what to name the panel that would make people want to go to would be appreciated as well.

~FUNImation's reason for changing the title to Case Closed and Americanizing it

Copyright issues with "Conan the Barbarian".

~How long the manga and anime have been going in Japan

Manga : 2nd of February 1994
Anime : 8th of January 1996

~Conan in other countries (other then Japan and US)

In France, 214 episodes were dubbed but only 170 aired (not the first 170) starting in 2004 on different channels (Cartoon Network, NT1, France3...). The broadcast is currently interrupted. Only 30 episodes have been released on DVD. The manga has been published by "Kana" since april 1997 and is currently ongoing with the publication of the 65th volume to occur in August.

All according to wikipedia, hope it helps in something

In Spain:

Spoiler:
Manga: Up to September 2010 the number of published 68 volumes (corresponding to 65 volumes of the japanese edition.)

Anime:
Language Emisión Nº de Episodes/Movies
Spanish     2000-2011 456 episodios (I only know about 327 so not sure how accurate is this) (+ Movies 1-4)
Catalán     2001-2010 561 episodios (+ Movies1-8)
Gallego        2006-2010         300 episodios
Valenciano    2010-2011  208 episodios
Euskera     2007-2010 105 episodios (+ Movies 5-6)
Balear     2007-2010 50 episodios

In Latin America:

Spoiler:
Anime:
Detective Conan was released in Mexico in 2000, but only  a few episodes were broadcasted and it's no longer being aired.

Is exactly the same case of Colombia, where only a few episodes were broadcast.

In Argentina sent the first set, consisting of 65 episodes, by the Extinct Magic Kids channel.

In Chile, which aired the first block of 65 chapters in 1998.  After just over 1 year in broadcast, the series was withdrawn. But in 2006 it came back on the same channel, premiering this time the figure of 123 episodes ( all the dubbed episodes  in Latin America). Currently on display in cable TV etc the same batch of 123 episodes doubled in the past.

In 2010 the City paid signal Family premiered the exclusive movies 1 and 2 for all Latin America with a new dubbing done in Mexico and respecting the original names of the characters, and probably most of them will premiere during the course of 2011.

Gonna go with No.
I believe you're referring to something that was once written in wikipedia (which now isn't there anymore). It was a thing of "legal considerations"

1.  You can talk about why Conan works so well even though it incorporates Sci-fi elements into a "realistic" setting. and how it manages to keep the "sci-fi" believable.

2.  Talk about the characters themselves. Each by themselves may not be very fleshed out, but when put together the dynamic is just right if not interesting. Why characters are so identifiable to the audience.

3. How the presentation of crime in Conan is often times different. In most other representation of crime by other anime or western media (including many Sherlock Holmes cases), the perpetrator is mostly driven by evil (like gin). They do bad for reasons of their vices (drugs, jealousy, money). In many cases of Conan, the murderer had a personal vendetta against a certain somebody. The revenge-murders turn the cases into mini tragedies. The past wrongful acts by the victim lead to the wrongful action committed by the once-good person in the present. It makes the cases more personal, emotional, and identifiable. We understand the murder's intentions, but his actions are wrong regardless of his justification. It's a reason why I really like Conan.

Clues without Deduction are meaningless. Deductions without Clues are invalid.

I think this one is more of a personal opinion.
There is nothing realistic about the sci-fi elements in my opinion.
