I found it annoying at the beginning, but it got better as the episode progressed. Ran was irritating during the entire run of the episode though (I usually like her in the manga).

I completely agree with this. Ran's being OOC was a little too much to bear. But since I'm a guy, the whole underwear thing made it worth my while. (That last part was a joke! I have no interest in panty thieving!)

The real Ran would have kicked him once, after running after him of course, but she would have let him away after that, because she is also very forgiving and nice. This Ran... was too much, I absolutely agree.

The case was good, I just hope the next one will be worthy of a Shinichi-Heiji case. It seems like Heiji's character is taken from the first case he appeared in, he seems to be a very serious type of guy.

Well the absence of gratuitous scantily clad models was nice, the case and the characters were still unimpressive. People are talking about Ran's character being OOC, but the same was true, in a more striking way of Shinichi (his feelings towards the criminal were quite unlike those he normally expresses).

"The energies of our system will decay; the glory of the sun will be dimmed, and the earth, tideless and inert, will no longer tolerate the race which has for a moment disturbed its solitude. Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."

It's very rare to see the characters in character in the LA series these days. I am highly doubting that the script writers for this bothered with such a thing, considering the characterizations. Eri pointing a finger gun and shooting at the criminal, however impressive Otsuka Nene's acting may have been, was out of character.

Perhaps it's due to the fact that Ran seemed strikingly out of character due to Kutsuna's tones not fitting Ran? Possibly also due to the fact that Ran was quite out of character since the start of the show, while Shinichi has his moments where he's convincing as a high school detective.

It may be just me, but despite Shinichi and a number of other characters being out of character, the one who I found to get on my nerves the most in the end was Ran. Sato generally comes next, but one can be biased when they have a preference for a certain actor's portrayal of a character as opposed to others.

But indeed it's true that Shinichi, as either Conan or his teenage self, expressing care for a criminal, advocating for justice rather than truth, is unprecedented, unless I remembered wrong, in canon.

That aside, it seems that Heiji's image in the character list has now been released by the official website. They've been hiding it for a while under a blank image. Matsuzaka Tori looked a bit more Heiji in a non-costumed image, compared to this, sadly. But I suppose it's difficult to expect much from the LA in terms of costuming. They've likely got a low budget.

In terms of costuming and expressions, Kazuha is likely the one that most closely reminds me of the character in canon, aside from Eri. But who knows how things would go in the next episode. A number of images on their blog regarding the Heiji case too.

After seeing the Englush version: it was easy to guess the murderer this time, but the overall the case and the motivation was "good". This was a fun case, Heiji was okay, Kazuha was perfect, that new police detective was good too.
The only thing which was to random is Heiji suddenly taking out his cap. I was like, what the hell? Why?

The Heiji case was pretty OK, in my opinion. I still don't understand why Shinichi used an alias, but oh well. And why did Sato play along? (It's almost as if they're trying not to destroy the established canon. Too bad Heiji's appearance at all completely ruins it.)
