And that led you to believe that the culprit was Miyuki

Guess she was the culprit then :V

it led kogoro to believe it was miyuki, but didn't Conan then take it further with the position of the bead + the names to get the culprit?

The position of the bead only told them that the old lady knew who it was

The culprit was 100% figured out once they realized how the dog wasn't really on fire

I usually don't like kanji wordplays (like in Agasa's quiz) but I liked it in this ep, maybe because it had a nice story in background and maybe because Kogoro explained it xD the whole case was ok for me

and the DB case, omg that was so creepy X_X I was hiding behind my pillow and was really scared of that famous culprit silhouette. I love creepy episodes in DC! (omg that one when there was someone scaring his neighbour (?) by turning on the tv with a freaky lady on it X___X)

Sometimes Aoyama writes things that you just know he's like "haha wonder how they'll translate THAT"

I watched the dub for The Mystery Writer Disappearance Case the other day (Samonji's writer left his daughter and the rest of Japan a challenge note and a series of coded cipher in his manuscript), god I didn't know that Funimation didn't even BOTHER changing the Japanese cipher. They invented their own explanation while completely ignoring the fact that it didn't match what Gosho explained on screen at all. It was PAINFUL for me to watch.

You either completely invent your version (photoshop everything) or you sub the Japanese ciphers. You just can't do a half-assed attempt like that.

They did this with the snow villa case too, where Ran solves it with Shinichi's help via the pre-bluetooth bluetooth.  They originally had everything redone on screen (as can be seen in early episodes), but didn't put those alt-angles in later because they stopped doing that when they stopped releasing singles.  They just didn't re-dub it once that was decided.

yeah, this is, in a way, apparently a common problem with Funi's stuff

Weird thing happened with the School Rumble dub. While they did do something similar with not changing the japanese for the jokes while still changing the joke, that didn't happen too often (how many jokes involved kanji and the like anyway?). But the weird thing is that at some point they decided to use their subbed versions of the videos...well at least the translations for written japanese and OP/ED subs. So they would actually have the translation of the jokes and have it not fit the dub's jokes at all! And considering how they originally didn't have that for the dub, I have to ask: what the hell?

I like the cases with japanese word-play since they're a nice change of the formula. This one was quite complicated but I was really interested by the folklore tale.
