Why should he go for Haibara? Her personality is like Sonokos, and Shinichi and Sonoko would make a horrible pair. So ConanxHaibara would be pretty much the same. They are not compatible, their ideal and values differ way too much.

Ayumi is the much better, much more natural choice. If he can't be with Ran, why shouldn't he go for a girl that is similar to her, because obviously he likes those characteristics of her. And Ayumi fits that description very well. Even better, she is also much more interested in his work as a detective than any other girl he met so far (except maybe Officer Satô, but she has a boyfriend already. )

However, their behavior towards Shinichi/Conan are the same. Many interactions include them mocking each other, sometimes scheming against each other, disagreeing on many things they do.
If Haibara wasn't one of the few persons he could talk about the BO and his former life they would hardly interact with each other. Just like Shinichi and Sonoko mainly interacted with each other because of Ran.
Sure, Haibara respects Conan. But so does Sonoko, who - despite her dislike for Shinichi - has to admit that he is pretty smart. Sometimes. When it is about cases.

From the few things we know about Chiba and Akai... I wouldn't say so. Akai seems to be more like a revenge-driven hunter. Chiba is a police officer who seems to like he is okay with what he does and lives a "normal" single-life.

However, Akako wants Kaitô to... admire her. That is the opposite of Haibara. No, comparing the interaction of Conan with Haibara is much closer to Shinichi and Sonoko. While Ayumi and Conan is much more like young Ran and young Shinichi.

Here is comparesion of sonoko to Haibara

Similarity: Both are girls ( duh), both have some interst in fashion... errmmm that's it

difference : Sonoko wants interest of boys while Ai don't ( maybe apart form Conan)
Haibara is more smater then Sonoko ( Sonoko is brain dead)
Sonoko wants people's attention while Haibara dosen't care for it
Sonoko is more emotional than ice-queen Haibara
