"But I'm not worried... because if something happened, I know, Conan-kun, you'd save me, right? Because we are destined to be together!" Ayumi blushed up hearing the familiar words she seemed to remember speaking all of those years ago. "You... oh. You remembered that." She crossed her hands over one another, looking down to hide the deep blush that spread across her face.
Conan smiled. "Of course I did."
"But why? WHY do you remember it?"
"How can I forget you saying something like that?"
"I-I don't know! I nearly did! It was so.. embarrassing!"
Conan snickered at the sudden tone she was using. It was quiet but bold and shy- just the voice he liked to hear out of her.
"Anyways, Ayumi, there was a reason I brought you here?"
Ayumi nodded. "Well, yeah! You said you wanted to go over our latest case, right?"
"No."
"Eh?"
"I said I wanted to talk to you about something important."
"Yeah... the case."
"No, Ayumi. NOT the case."
"Then what?"
Conan sighed. "Just.. just give me a minute here, okay?" Ayumi raised an eyebrow towards her friend but listened nevertheless.
The 20-year-old looked about the park, taking in every inch and centimeter. This park hadn't changed one bit. Much like you and Conan... her mind reminded her. Her eyes narrowed. That's right. Nothing has changed between the two of us. He's still Conan and i'm still Ayumi. Neither of us have changed. Maybe we HAVE gotten a LITTLE bit closer but is that really any progress at all?
"Ayumi."
"Neh?"
Turning around, she came face-to-face with him, a look of sheer determination on his face and maybe... embarrassment?
"Ayumi... I remember those words just recently, because just a couple of years ago when you said them I didn't believe it. I didn't think think we would get this far that we..." He looked away, the blush darkening. "I did'nt think that I would learn to feel this way." Ayumi raised her eyebrow once more. What could he be talking about? "I honestly never thought that I would be asking you out to somewhere like this alone. I never thought that you'd mean so much to me." His eyes darted back to her, the determined look there again. That look was enough to make her take one step back, and take in a light breath as he grasped her hand gently and his and bent down on one knee.
"Ayumi... we've come this far, and now I want to go a little further." He reached his hand into his back pocket, pulling a small black velvet box out. "Ayumi Yoshida..." Her eyes widened and she could feel her heartbeat racing faster than it ever had around him before.
"My teammate... my friend..." His eyes lit up in sheer anxiety- but there was a another feeling, too. "My girlfriend..."
The black box slipped open as he gently pulled out a diamond ring, it's smooth ledges shining in the light of the streetlights. "Will you marry me?"
