well, she is asian and rich so I guess it makes sense.

wut? O.o
almost every child in my country plays either flute or piano and you see this in animes a LOT too, even in school, that has nothing to do with being asian or being rich, doesn't it? o.O

And that country would be...?
You got me wrong. I know that a lot of asians (at least in the last decades) are very attracted to classical music and especially with flute. The best flute player in my country has a lot of asian students.
I'm not asian and I'm not rich, yet I play the flute and I know many others who do too. Of course that in Europe MANY people play the flute, but I know that a lot of asians play the flute as well, especially those who come from a wealthy family can afford themselves a good flute and a good teacher.
I just used a stereotype on Sonoko who is asian and rich, I've never said that only rich asians play the flute as that would go against me as well.

Sonoko doesn't really play the flute anyways. She wrote the script so of course she's going to make herself seem like she can do everything.  ::)

Not that I disagree (because She was never shown with flute in the manga so it's safe to assume that she doesn't really play the flute) but seeing her with a flute made me think "oh wow, Sonoko actually does something in her life" because besides stealing screentime of other characters, she doesn't do anything at all. She has a boyfriend who she rarely sees, she goes to shopping with Ran and she sometimes tries to solve cases (and with conan's help she does)
So according to all this, she doesn't do ANYTHING. She's doing less than what the avarage person does. If she really played the flute, I'd have much more respect for her (and not only because I also play the flute) because it would show that she actually does something with her life. It would show that maybe she has some dreams and interests for her future. With her money, she can have a great teacher and maybe even a flute made of gold (DIE JAMES GALWAY, DIE!!!)

this is a detective anime, no normal person gives a hype about what these characters do between the cases they appear in

So in other words you claim that I'm not a normal person?  ::) that might be true cause some of my friends think that I'm an incantation of the devil and my brother persuades people to think that I'm a vampire...
But the first person who suppose to "give a hype" about what these characters do between cases, is the author. If he doesn't care about characters that appear very often then he doesn't respect his characters.
The thing is that the only times we get to see the characters are when there are cases, so only in the cases we get to see their development, background history and details. If Gosho's only intention was to introduce so many characters with different personalities in order to flavour the cases a bit, then that's just pointless to begin with, especially after 700 files cause the flavour is long gone. We get the fact that this secondary character is bla bla bla. If Gosho doesn't do anything new with this secondary character, then he just wanted to introduce that character for adding flavour and didn't think about a proper background at all.
In my novel there are characters that I don't sympathize with and some that I don't like that much. However you can be damn sure that I gave all of my characters (not only the main ones) a proper background.

I can actually go even further in what you said. You say that people shouldn't care what character X did between a certain case to another case, but given the fact that it was maybe something important or something that affects the plot, OF COURSE people should care what this character did.

First of all, I thought everyone realized by now that they shouldn't ever take my posts too seriously to the point of making multiparagraph rants to disprove everything I said?

It hasn't affected the plot and isn't important and thus, doesn't matter. If it doesn't matter to the plot or the cases, then it shouldn't matter and no one should care too much. Which was my point, silly. Relax, chill pill etc.  :P

Also, ironically, since after Haibara was introduced, adding more"flavour" was probably one of the reasons why every single case seems to have either the DB, Heiji, Eri, Kid, Sato and Takagi or the latest mystery character. I mean, I'm sure that isn't the main reason Gosho actually does that but I wouldn't be surprised for a second if he thought of that as a way to make the series longer.

I'm just a serious person...at least on the internet for that matter...  :-[

I agree on that.

The Tagaki and Sato for example could have been done in less than the 10+ cases that developed (and for several times didn't develop at all) their relationship.

I think you could get rid of the train and wedding cases and maybe somehow combine Metropoliton Police Detective Love Story 7 and 8 but other than that I think it worked perfectly.

Hell, keep the train one just because it happened after an awesome case and because Yumi was awesome.

What I'm saying is that the Wedding case was pointless! (just like every case between 425 and Clash of Red and Black that didn't involve the plot, the other two Sato and Takagi cases and the two Kid cases)

Sonoko is a tennis player (who has access to private tennis clubs all over the place apparently).  She also picked up on (amature) magic tricks because of KID ;D.
Hey, I have an idea, let's have a THIS SUCKS / NO THIS SUCKS / NO YOU / NO YOU argument for a couple pages, that will really be great. - Ingmar

And we've never heard from any of these interests ever again...What episode is the tennis thing?

We haven't seen or heard of her boyfriend since volume 52 / episodes 457-458 either.  Gosho just obviously doesn't care about her anymore, and I don't really blame him.

I actually found this to be an enjoyable episode. I couldn't find what made everyone loathe it(and I was looking). Only two questionable things I saw was that the DBs kill everything they touch(and if you aren't numb to this by now...) and Ran's obsession with Shinichi(actually adding him to the story and making it about them being together  ;D) that seems to be more apparent in non canon episodes. Other than that, the story was enjoyable.

One thing that really stood out to me was that they kept using "Amazing Grace" in this OVA when it really didn't seem to fit the atmosphere..and why was Ran the only one that didn't get to play an instrument for her appearance? ;D

As I said to GinRei just before we inflicted this upon the world at long last, this OVA was really just a behind-the-scenes look at how the AOs are created. :'(

When Ran showed up it was a piece of Bach (I think. That was the only musical part that I didn't rewatch later to figure out if the sound was fake or not.) and it was played by (most likely a fake or at least a cd of the piece) a pipe organ, and these things aren't that different from piano (which according to movie 12, is Ran's instrument) so her appearing with a piano/similiar instrument is even more stupid than Sonoko appears with a flute and spins it like Ian Anderson

Cheers. My eyes hurt in their sockets already.

Spoiler:
IMO the so-bad-it's-good scene was the spotlight scene of Ran and Shinichi, my stomach hurt laughing at it.
No amount of apologies will express how much I regret it.
