Something bothers me about Magic File 3.....Not a fan of non

what really bothers me about this file is that this boy named Tanabana really loved Ran. And no, he wasn't the "all-great Shinichi" but geez! I felt it was kind of bogus how Ran was all drooling on the "ever hand-some, popular, cool" Shinichi, and missing up this guy who may not be as cool or handsome but really likes her. Most girls are like that, and they end up going for the men who really don't care about them as much as they want them too. Thats how it always is. And its annoying.

Something about this file bothered me in that way. And even though Shinihi did the right thing, it wasn't his place to do so. It was more-so Ran's place. But she was too caught up into Shinichi that she didn't notice someone who would really be there for her. Shinichi really doesn't deserve her. This guy does. Then again, this is non-canon, right?

But it still bothers me greatly. What do you all think?

I continue by saying this is: I'm not a big fan of non-canon stuff. The non-canon stuff gets the whole story twisted around and tells it all backwards, and gives a whole different feeling to a character.

I'm not sure what you mean as far as "Shinichi did the right thing, it wasn't his place to do so" - are you referring to Shinichi kind of stepping aside to make way for this guy?

This is sadly true - regardless of gender.  We all know about the guys that go all out to make their girlfriend happy - to the point of buying them expensive gifts and such, but the girl is just using him to get shiny things, etc.

As far as non-canon stuff... just disregard and move on.  Treat it like fanfic.

The only true gospel is the manga itself.  Preferably in the original language.

pretty much this. I mean, he likes her, good for him, but he decides to just be a dick to her for some reason. I dunno why you feel like he should be noticed by her rather than shinichi, maybe because you feel sorry for the dude or something, but pretty much shinichi's the one in the situation who isn't acting like an ass, even if he wasn't the main character.

Yeah, that daisuke kid went  a bit too far.  I've heard of kids teasing the girl/boy they like, but what he said was over the line. 

And yeah, I can see your point Sora.  Daisuke sort of reminded me a bit of Eisuke and Ran for some reason.  Daisuke, Eisuke... It does irritate me than Ran is too hot and bothered with Shinichi's actions/thoughts and doesn't really give any other guy a chance.

Well, you can say the same with Ran and Shinichi.  Childhood love stories? pfft come ooon    If Ran can't handle not seeing Shinichi for like...a couple of months (in DC time of course), you think she can last when they go to college (on the assumption they won't go to the same university, seeing how Shinichi is like Stanford-material while Ran is probably like public or even community college)?!

We have more evidence to argue that way with Ran and Shinichi.  This other kid doesn't have a chance compared to that.  Given more screen time, maybe. 

The whole childhood love thing... don't get me started.

Anyway, I approve of Shinichi being like "I did something to help Ran but I don't care. I will stare at nothing and look like the coolest 2nd grader ever!"

of course Shinichi was cool about it. He was nice to the boy about it. The boy was teasing Ran, which Shinichi often does himself.....it meant that he liked her.

It wasn't what Shinichi did that bothered me. It was the fact that during Ran's whole life she never knew that this boy "liked" her. Different people have different ways of showing it. I mean it's like that all the time. Everybody wants to like the cool and popular dude/dudette, who seems oh-so-kind and good and gallant. And okay, the boy acted mean, but he acted like that because he liked her, and some guys like to tease the girls they like

Again, reminds me of Syaoran from CCS where he used to treat Sakura meanly, but he ended up being her true knight in shining armor.....

I don't know. I don't feel there was any closure there....she in a way misjudged him, which I feel needed closure.

I guess I do feel sorry for Tanabana, but that's what makes me bothered about the characters reactions and attitudes, how Ran is all drooling over the ever-selfish Shinichi really irritates because he's so freakin perfect and he knows it. 

Shinichi in that file didn't seem to give a lint about Ran, especially in that picture...

It was really funny when Kogoro threw Conan like 10 meters flying and when Ran mimic Sinichi with the tiles LOL

I loved how Ran used the mahjong tiles as puppets.  That's so...iunno.  Well I guess if Conan was actually 8 then he would have found is amusing.  I know I would have xD.

And I like how Shinichi can jump fences when he's in second grade.  Yay ninja skills!


Well Shinichi's mean is like a grade 2 kid with a crush kicking girl's crotches or chasing them with poo.  Daisuke is making fun of the fact that Ran's mother left her.  OKAY WTF?  Seriously if a kid said that to me when I was in the second grade I'll hate him forever.  I wouldn't even care if he apologized and complimented on how hot my mom is (wut) the next day I would hate him.  If that kid really has a crush I wish the writers would come up with something that makes him less of an asshole.

Oh yes, nothing says love like making fun of your crush's newly broken family.  While you're at it you can rub in her face her father's stupid and everyone knows about it!  D'aww kids these days!

If anything I was expecting Ran to beat the crap out of that kid herself, or at least ya know, break a street sign.  But oh no, since this is the movie writers obviously Ran needs SHINICHI out of all people to "protect" her from the big meanie (lol wut).  Obviously this is ignoring the fact that Sonoko stuck up for her already and that Ran doesn't want to make a big deal out of this (if she did people would just gossip more).  

Oh movie writer-san, when you stop ripping apart other people's characters for your own profit, maybe I'll actually pay to watch your movies.

I don't think Ran knew karate in 2nd grade. I believe Shinichi was starting to slowly but surely become "I'm better than everyone"-like since he was a child (a problem he has only somewhat fixed thanks to his neverending spelling mistake life as Conan). At least, this is my guess.

Anyway, yes the portrayal of Ran's character was kinda lame but the talking mahjong thing that pratically made fun of Conan, Shinichi and herself more than made up for it.

And this is not as bad as movie 4's ending. The horribleness of that deserves a freakin novel.

I have a question...Conan talked about something to do with mahjong relating to a crime...was he referring to the "scar" arc in the actual manga/series?..Or was he foreshadowing movie 13?
