I'd say Episodes 305-306 / Files 374-376 "The Unseen Suspect" would qualify.

Still, even in that Shinichi "already knew." Geez It's like Shinichi always has the upper hand on everything......I'd change that at least for one episode.

I would suggest episode 225.
Although Conan thinks about the right solution, he considers it wrong because the culprit isn't acting in an (almost) perfect way as DC-culprits normally do and so Conan doesn't investigate his theory any further.
So Mitsuhiko and the other Detective Boys solve the crime on their own, while Conan is almost getting crazy about the stupid culprit("I hate this. Even after solving the crime, I fell horrible."). In the end, he suggests a better way of committing the crime to the culprit and states that he only want cases in that his intellect engages with the culprit "in a spectacular battle of wits."

Actually, it's the DC episode I like most. I just couldn't stop laughing while watching it...
If  ;), :D, ;D, ::), :P, :-X, :o or >:D are attached, that paragraph may not be 100% serious. Seriously.

Thank you! I'm heading there now! Is that a manga file?

Another question, do you know all the TV originals that have the Detective Boys and Haibara in it?

No, it's an anime original.

aww man i want the detective boys to solve a case without Conan (or ANYBODY'S help) for once!! it was much better last time when they were making fun of Conan all the time and bullying him instead of now when they only listen to him heh :P

and I'd like to have less of the over-technical murder methods. :/ things like, using string, and you tie it here, and loop it here, and go over this, etc etc and when you pull it then TA-DA the trick is completed!! ...SOMETIMES it's fine but other times it's too much for my brain to visualise. :P I'd like more simple tricks that don't involve this, simple but CLEVER. e.g. I really liked the Heiji-Shinichi deduction battle cos the real solution was smart and unexpected :D

Like caribu I think it would be better if there are simple tricks once in a while.
Not because the "complicated" ones suck, but because it would be more logical. I mean when you murder some one for example unintentionally or by accident, how many people would come up with such tricks when you have maybe a few minutes to escape and erase all evidence or manipulate them in a way so they point to some one else?
That part of DC is one of the ones that annoy me the most.

1) Make Ran related to the BO in some big way.

2) Make a whole 1 hr episode of Shiho as an adult and her time in the BO.

3) Make an episode where Shinichi DOESN'T solve the case. (and Kogorou Mouri does lol  ;D)

4) And make an interesting case with suspects that are completely different and someone you would never guess ever!

1) Really? Well maybe she can be invovled in a big way but I swear if she gets all sappy and stuff I will put a curse on this manga/anime!

2)That is a great idea they should of done this from the start and also put some kinda shihi arc

3)I believe they already have. Maybe they should do another but overall shinichi should be the one sloving the case

4) Yea gosho needs to step it up a notch

Well... he considered it but eliminated the motive of that guy too quickly because the way he behaved was too naive for him to follow.  :P
There was another one.... I think it was "The Victim that returned" [ahh, found it: episode 303: The Victim who Came back] where he let Mitsuhiko do the reasoning. IIRC he wasn't wrong in that case but Mitsuhiko had the same ideas as him.

Still, these are both Anime Originals. And many people consider only the things that happen in the Manga as canon.
So we still need a case where the three detective boys kids solve a case on their own, without help, in the manga.
But I think chances for that to happen are not that bad.

I really think it would be better if Shinichi really can not solve a case, because he just doesn't get behind it. And is not just eliminating the idea as not possible/not likely or is letting someone else doing the reasoning.
Or at least let him not know everything.

While I'm writing, I just remebered a case Shinichi couldn't (completly) solve.
After his reasoning, his father appears and explains the few remaining fragments. It was this case with the uncle from Brazil, I don't know the number (but the next one posting will know it for sure, thx in advance^^). Perhaps you could choose this case as fitting to your requirements?
Also, if Shinichi has another case he didn't solve, we would need someone else to solve it, and, after all, who (except his father) is "better" in solving a case then him? We would need such a character before creating a case like that.
If  ;), :D, ;D, ::), :P, :-X, :o or >:D are attached, that paragraph may not be 100% serious. Seriously.

Personally I hate it when a writer tries to belittle his star. Having conan not be able to solve something would make him less cool  :-[

well, maybe you don't need someone who's better in solving a case than him. it could be a case of, someone knowing more about something than he does? e.g. if a case involves something that 1st graders would know intuitively, less so for grown-ups (because they've already forgotten, or something)... or, like that case which Kogoro solved so easily cos the culprit used the same cassette-tape trick which he also used to do on his wife, lol. (I can't remember which file that is, sorry!)

yes, that annoys me too! :/ it seems to me like some of the tricks used would take more than just a few minutes to prepare.

Yeah, you're right. A case only Heiji can solve because you need to know something only someone from Osaka would know is also possible.
BTW it may be possible that a case similar to the fictional ones we're describing does already exist, I might not notice it because I only got to episode 350 so far (but I read the manga up to book nr. 60).
