Veteran voice actor apologizes to fans, creator, cast members, staff

Veteran voice actor Akira Kamiya has announced on his official blog on Friday morning that he will no longer play the major role of Kogoro Mouri in the Detective Conan (Case Closed) anime series. He said that he cannot discuss the reasons and other details, but humbly acknowledged fault in this situation.

Kamiya then offered his apologies to all of the fans for this turn of fortune. He also offered his apologies to the manga creator Gosho Aoyama, lead voice actress Minami Takayama (Conan Edogawa), voice actress Wakana Yamazaki (Ran Mouri), voice actor Kenichi Ogata (Hiroshi Agasa), the other members of the cast, the staff of APU Studio, the YTV network, and the publisher Shogakukan. Kamiya has played the character of Kogoro, the private investigator who deals with the pint-sized Detective Conan and the father of Ran, since the anime launched in 1996.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF I just found out it was confirmed. I'm sobutthurt right now. I would have taken the entire rest of the cast being recast (with the exception of Conan, Heiji and Agasa's seiyuus) just to keep him. I don't think anyone is going to be able fill those shoes.

...I can live with the recast temporarily until Gosho gets to kill him and it reaches the anime. But they need to bring him back for the inevitable speech to everyone important (mainly Conan, Ran, Eri and Megure) before he dies. Hell, that alone would raise the ratings and could create enough money to bring him back and then some.

Would it be possible to hire a voice actor that sounds nearly identical to Kamiya, has anything like this happened before in cartoons, where they replace a V.A. and no one notices due to the skillz of the new actor?

I don't know about killing, but I think Gosho will start to give less appearances for Kogoro because of the fans.
