Ever get a friend to like DC?

Postby Brekclub85 » August 5th, 2009, 4:25 pm

I've been a big fan of Detective Conan/Case Closed since I first saw the English dub of the anime when it aired on Adult Swim back in 2004. (I'll admit, I never saw the original japanese version till about Spring 2006, so I was used to the english names.)  But since then, I've made some of my friends into Conan fans, at least 3 of them for sure, I even got my middle school art teacher to become a fan! (I first saw CC when I was 11.)

So, has anyone else have a friend who became a DC/CC fan because of you, or vice-versa (You became a fan because of a friend?)

I dunno if I made him a fan or if we both just watched it, but I've only ever had one friend who was an actual fan of the series. Though, he stopped watching when it went off AS, but oh well.

There's this friend that introduced Conan to me when we were in third grade...

Friend: *waves manga in front of me* READ THIS.
Me: Okay..... *takes book* What's it about?
Friend: It's about a 17 year old that got shrunk into a 6 year old.
Me: O______O
Friend: That's putting things short... Actually, the teen's a high-school detective that...... (blah blah blah)
Me: *sigh* Uhhh...... I get it...
Friend: (blah blah blah blah)
Me: OKAY! I GET IT ALREADY!!!! *runs off to read manga*

I blame my friend entirely. ;D

I managed to get a friend to buy the first four books of the manga.  She really liked them but lost interest within a couple months. :-[  Once 05' passed, I've had a very hard time; it doesn't help that DC's a long series.

Like how I watched the anime starting with ep 129, my friend got me to read conan starting with volume 18 XDDD, then I got stuck with it until now XDDD. Hmmm so I was the one that was reeled in, XD But I seriously never try to real others... wonder why... maybe since they are not Holmes fan like me, so I really doubt they'd like conan XDDD

yup, my friend actually got me into DC, Case Closed actually this year, after I watched all the dub i went to subbed, which I think is much better...lol eventually my friend stopped liking DC as I continued my obsession!!

A lot of people are turned off by the incredible length of the series (500 eps!!) plus the fact that it's bound with fillers : /

Fillers from the anime really does kinda tick me off sometimes, unless there's Haibara XD

But for the 700+ chapters, I really still like the cases and everything, and I don't mind this series not ending in the near future (other series I can't even go further than chapter 200 XDD), cuz I get to try new way to kill people LOL... Just kidding... but it's fun to try deducting and get my head going a little, something that other series totally lack off ^_^ (the ones I've read anyway XD)

My friend stopped reading not because she was getting scare with the 700+ chapters, but more like her country stop releasing it... or something XDDD

I haven't tried.
But whenever a friend walks by and he/she caught me watching DC they'll get interested, until the ep is finished.
But that's how far it goes.
They'll forget it later.

I have forced everyone who has ever roomed with me and all my cousins and siblings to like Conan.

If they don't, I will make them.

And they won't like it when I do that.

: )

Well no actually it's just because I make a lot of Conan stuff for myself (keychain/stationary/muffins/etc...) and my housemates eventualy got interested.  As for my siblings I just swamp them with hentai or yaoi respectively and they eventually started (re)liking the series...though in my brother's case he's bought Conan (for his collection) he just haven't really read it until now ==.

My sister got me into Conan when we were kids. Then I got dad into the series and he likes it a lot even though he only watches it from time to time. Then I got some of my real-life friends and most of my internet friends into it. I'm contagious. xD

Around ten months ago, art period, school:

Girl in my class I hadn't talked to [and who turned out to be an otaku- trust me, it's hard finding otakus in India.] - So you see, in Japan recently, they built a robot-
Me: YOU LIKE JAPAN?!
Otaku: Yep! YOU TOO?!
Me: Yep! I can't believe I found someone who likes-
Otaku: Hey, do you know what anime is? I just love-
Me: Anime? Of course! -shows her how to draw anime-
Otaku: Do you watch that show Detective Conan? You know, it comes on hungama TV-
Me: CONAN? HELL YEAH!

And from that day onwards, I started re-reading Conan. :D I'd read it a few months ago, but lost interest quickly. Ten months later, I [and my friend-- she hadn't seen much after episode 48]had turned into a hardcore Conan fan :D

Ed: I told you, a fist in his face!

Hughes: Yo, Ed! Getting it on with a girl in your hospital room?
Ed: She's just my automail mechanic!
Hughes: Ah, so you've seduced your mechanic? Not bad, midget.
