Think this thread has changed much? (considering your post has the old subject line of Re: Ran + Kazuha + Sonoko ?!?!)

And I appreciate your perseverance in returning to this thread, time after time. 8-) :)

“Life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent. We would not dare to conceive the things which are really mere commonplaces of existence. If we could fly out of that window hand in hand, hover over this great city, gently remove the roofs, and and peep in at the queer things which are going on, the strange coincidences, the plannings, the cross-purposes, the wonderful chains of events, working through generations, and leading to the most outre results, it would make all fiction with its conventionalities and foreseen conclusions most stale and unprofitable.”

Intersex and genderqueer are different things. An intersex person's body has both masculine and feminine traits. A genderqueer person doesn't feel they are male or female. Sex=the physical body, gender=the mind/soul/heart.
DCUniverseAficionado wrote:I'm afraid I must disagree—she killed herself over having romantic feelings for/being engaged to her twin. Gender had nothing to do with it—and how'd you come to the conclusion that she hated herself?
She killed herself with fire. The way they figured it out was that one of her fake nails came off, covered in her own blood from her ripping at her own face, and fell under a car where it didn't burn.
My DC Fanfic: Awaking and Arising - Shiromi writes her version of the end of the series. With 100% more lesbians and immortal zombie boys. And existential crises. Lots of them.
Kogorou - A character study that seeks to answer the question: Why is Kogorou the way he is?
A Kindred Spirit - Sonoko and Makoto realize that they have more in common than previously realized.

She had an incestuous relationship while being unaware of it. That would make many people hate or at least disgust themselves, regardless of gender.

Seems I have much to learn on this subject matter—thanks for the clarification. :-[

Self-hatred can certainly play a role in suicide, but I don't think it was the decider, in this case. I think it was more that she just wanted her life to be over with—after the choice she unknowingly made, she decided that ending it all was the better option. It was that unknowing choice—that event or sequence of events—rather than who she was as a person that led her to suicide.

And since this thread is taking this turn, I'm just going to have this be my last response—we can continue this in PM, if either one of you like.

Perhaps we non-Japanese see something perfectly normal in their society, such as hand-holding between female characters, and immediately assume or hope for a yuri romance.

On the other hand, there are mangaka, Gosho not among them, that use yuri to titillate fans, not to mention the actual lily manga that is published.

Then there is the doujinshi produced by fans...it's enough to give me a headache. Thoughts?

It interests me that while so many people ship same sex characters (me included), Japan lags behind the rest of the world in LGBTQ acceptance or understanding. Even Sera is referred to as a 'tomboy'. That is a naïve viewpoint, IMHO.

This topic will never die. Has anyone noticed in the most recent episodes if any of the female characters seem more than friends, or was that mostly in the early episodes? I admit I haven't fully caught up. Shame on me.

I don't see a need to bump this thread after more 1 year of inactivity.

Therefore I'm going to lock it. Unless there is a popular demand to continue the thread, which I don't see at the moment.
