Well, a lot of people may or may not understand the situation, it's kinda out there. But I have a feeling that the DB would understand if Shinichi and Shiho explain their pasts. I'm kinda mix about whether or not I'd prefer her to return to being Shiho at the end. And I'm sure if she returns to being Shiho she'd become closer with Ran and the others.
Ai was my favorite character (head & shoulders above everyone else with Vermouth) before she stopped being as cynical as she used to when she was first introduced. :'( I guess it's her character evolution but I don't like it.

Well she´s still cynical (especially to Shinichi and Agasa) but less cold then in the earlier chapters. Guess that´s her chara developement which is okay and probably necessary to see how much/less she changed.^^
I think since most believe that Haibara will stay as a child, Gosho will let her be Shiho again which will be an unexpected twist then.^g^
Though i´m still not sure if she will survive till the end or will end as *anther failure* of Shinichi like the other times when he wasn´t able to save everyone. In her case it will have WAAAAAAAAY more emotional impact on him, being the whole time in the same situation as him, the one who could have cured him, a friend who knew how he must feel as a teen in a kids body, who hlped him out and gets on his nerves from time to time and so on and so on.
