True, but unfortunately for Kogoro, once Ran hits 20 and Shinichi proposed, those two are going to get married whether he likes it or not!  And for once, it's not the girl who has mother-in-law issues...Honestly, Ran is one lucky TV/anime/manga heroine! Her (future) mother-in-law likes her.

They really should wait before getting married though. Hello, does the word "college" ring a bell? And how come their parents don't pester them with what course they're taking? My parents keep telling me to decide already...

And speaking of parents, I don't see Yuusaku's participation in this...has he gone MIA again or what?

While it's true that it seems very odd for us that these people (especially Kogoro and Eri) got married so early AND learned for their profecisions AND had a child AND eventually got a job, it seems like for Gosho, these details are very trivial and unimportant.

Where do you get Yusaku's age? Eri and Yukiko were given ages (well, Yukiko's alter ego in North Star Express was given an age, but it was the same as Eri's, and they were in the same grade in high school, so I'm pretty sure that was Yukiko's real age). Kogoro might still be something like 36 or 38, since, though he was a long time schoolmate of Eri's, he was never given a precise age (yappari, the official manga canon fanbook/sourcebook that I have does give a range for his age in his profile, 37-38). I don't remember Yusaku being given an age nor it being revealed in canon that he was a school mate of the other three. Closest thing I can remember was kidnapper!Yukiko calling him a "young man" when she married him, which would put him anywhere in his early 20s at the time and give him an age range of 37 to, say, 43 or so. (Unfortunately he doesn't get a profile in the fanbook, either. Apparently Matsuda and even Shiratori had more fans at the time than Yusaku.)

As for Eri, "The 2006 bar examination was first in Japanese history to require a law school degree as a prerequisite. In the past, although there has been no educational requirement, most of those who passed the examination had earned undergraduate degrees from 'elite' Japanese universities such as the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University or Hitotsubashi University." (wiki) Eri was a prodigy who could win a Harvard scholarship at the age of 16, so she wouldn't need to be a part of the "most" and could probably self-study and pass the bar without formal schooling, she's just that good. Even if she went to law school, note also the "elite" U. of Tokyo is a subway ride away for Tokyo residents like her, and that it was probably undergraduate level schooling. Also, Eri didn't actually get to argue cases in court until she was around 27, just before she left Kogoro (Young Kudo's Adventure). I don't see a major problem unless she's actually supposed to have graduated Harvard with a J.D.

Ran was only introduced as a high school junior (Kazuha OTOH was introduced with an age of 17). Her age in the fanbook is given as a range, 16-17, which is probably because it was inferred from her school grade, rather than because it was implying that she actually somehow had an uneventful, unremarked upon birthday between volume 1 and volume 43 (even if it somehow didn't involve a murder or a Kid appearance or something, surely Aoyama would have Ran think about it or mention it in passing if only to show her sadness that Shin'ichi wasn't around for it). She's explicitly 17 in the Lupin special, but that's a very dubious source for canon. Folks in the 2ch Angel thread seem pretty adamant that she's still 16, and that Aoyama said he's saving her birthday for something special (folks on 2ch will challenge rumors, and I haven't seen those claims challenged, so I'm inclined to take the claims seriously... well, slightly seriously). Heh, anyway, we'll know she's been 16 for most of the manga if she has a canon birthday before she becomes a senior...

do not count on this, a mother in law stays a mother in law no matter how nice she is  , believe me, personal experience

Agreed, monster-in-laws come out after a while. I think it's a jealous or possessive thing where they want to be the only woman in their son's life....though Yukiko is hardly around to know what Shinichi is doing....

On the other hand, Kogoro will definitely have the jealous and possessive thing when it comes to Shinichi not only because Shinichi has a habit of outshining him on his job, but also has a thing for his daughter and has a way of winning Ran, and any other woman's, heart.

It might be my partial insanity talking but I actually feel Kogoro would warm up to Shinichi if he became his son-in-law. Kogoro would dislike it at first but if Shinichi makes Ran happy and it is apparent, it will probably be a Kogoro/Conan relationship. He shows him tough love now as Conan. Always resorting to violence but but when it counts, he shows he cares and I see the same for Kogoro/Shinichi(though I don't think he'll be hitting Shinichi over the head..more like yelling at him).

I agree that Kogoro and Shinishi can get along together, even in real life I hardly heard about a father in law and a son in law clash, but it's different with ladies. Men do not pick on each others the small things, they talk mainly about politics and work life, but us ladies, Oh my God, we are MEAN to each others. We pick on each others small things. So, when I am in the supermarket, for example, and I need help, I pick a man, because they tend to be more helpful.

Time seems irrelevant in DC after so many chapters... I'm staying with 17 years, since Shiho was 18 and told Conan she had almost the same age as him.

And it is possible Shinichi has 17 and Ran 16, unless their birthday is on the same month,day,hour,minute and second (That would be soo weird and cool )

I agree, the time line is screwed up. But I think that's because Gosho didn't intend to make DC so long, and on the way, he probably didn't know how to fit in the time line anymore, so he just ditched that.

But actually, the BO invented a time machine. And now space and time is distorted in DC This would also explain Gin's hair change from brown-blond to silver

But whether Ran and Shinichi are 16 or 17 isn't much of a issue to me But both aren't 18 yet imo.
