Well, the whole Movie 11 suggests girls-love (the female pirates -parallelized with Ran and Sonoko- and their bond of trust etc). And Ran was overprotective with Sonoko and the possibility of her becoming food for sea creatures.

I was just watching that movie and thinking "There is soooo much
