Re: Ai + Conan
yeah, something like that, but even if that is true (Shiho pseudo name <Ai> come from Irene), that doesnt change the fact about how important Ran existence for Shinichi (Reread vol5)...

I think Gosho isn't good with romance,I dislike most of his pairing...but in terms of family/friends relationship he's better(for example the Ai/Ran relationship is subtle and moving).

Re: Ai + Conan
Gosho has definitely improved in story-telling, especially when it comes to relationships. There's the subtle growth between Sonoko and Makoto, the tension between Haibara and Okiya, the friendship of Azusa and Amuro, etc.
<rant> I really hope Gosho stops with the childhood lovers trend for now. He's great when it comes to actually developing couples from scratch. Just look at Takagi and Sato! And, so far, Sonoko and Makoto would have to be my guilty pleasure couple for now. </rant>
Anyways, this might seem a /bit/ random but... What are your guys favorite ConAi scene from the entire series so far? Like, your number ONE favorite scene that surpasses all of their interactions altogether?
I'm new here so I might as well get to know you guys!

Well apparently Gosho likes childhood pairings because it's easy to write,so it's because of his lazyness that we got so many of them XDXD...making good realistic pairings is much more complicatedchar13happy wrote:Gosho has definitely improved in story-telling, especially when it comes to relationships. My fav Coai scene is the one in my signature,it was a very touching moment, and sadly there aren't such good moments in the manga anymore.(not concerning Coai, but in DC in general)

Re: Ai + Conan
I agree that unfortunately it seems that Gosho does in fact introduce many childhood pairings mostly because it's easy to develop only one type of pairing that differentiate them. A pity, really, because imo childhood friend pairings is a concept that has a great potential, if exploited in the right way and well developed, such pairings are the most moving and touching, childhood being the most innocent period of people's lives. To be honest, I find rather annoying the fact that so many childhood friends in anime are tsunderes like Heiji x Kazuha or Eri x Kogoro. While I don't pretend they should always be lovey-dovey, they could at least sometimes show they care for each other, not just in situations when they are about to be killed.AICHAN wrote: Well apparently Gosho likes childhood pairings because it's easy to write,so it's because of his lazyness that we got so many of them XDXD...making good realistic pairings is much more complicated![]()
By the way, does anyone else think it could be interesting if Conan or Ai sometimes let themselves relax, remember their real childhood and just play with the other kids, pretending they are like them, just to remember those fun times? They are always serious and distanced from the Detective Boys for example. I understand they are in a situation of danger, considering the Black Organization, but still, as it's fiction, it would be fun to become a child again, as long as it's certain it can be reverted back eventually.

Re: Ai + Conan
I disagree with you Mario, conan and Ai are acting like kids recently in the manga, especially Ai who is enjoying her life.We can see them playing football, going to BBQ with the DB,going in camping trip...I could say that they are relaxed only when they are with the DB.
Just compare the recent chapters with the begining of DC,or Ai introduction...Now the distance between the DB and Conan/Ai is small, and Ai is smiling all the time with them.
And concernong childhood pairing,I also disagree...I like them when they are the tsundere type, like Kogoro/Eri,because the relationship gets more spicy, more interesting,so that the "romantic" moments feel more touching.A lovey dovey relationship where people saay I love you everyday are much more boring, because it becomes a routine,it gets boring(that's also why I don't like Shojo manga even if I'm a girl XDXD)

For the manga's latest chapters, you are probably right, it's just I haven't yet read them and watched the latest episodes, but now I have accumulated many, I will probably start watching again without pausesAICHAN wrote:I disagree with you Mario, conan and Ai are acting like kids recently in the manga, especially Ai who is enjoying her life.We can see them playing football, going to BBQ with the DB,going in camping trip...I could say that they are relaxed only when they are with the DB.

But, as for tsundere pairings, I think it should be balanced with "sweet" moments. Again, I am not saying it should be all lovey-dovey, it's just I don't like very much when the tsundere behavior takes about 90%. For example, if I remember well, Heiji and Kazuha showed any signs of positive feeling towards one another on 2 only occasions:

Re: Ai + Conan
Well actually Ai and Conan are relaxed now? I think it took Conan around 80 chapters to get from the "what do these kids want?" to "I guess I could spend time with them until I get my body back" and so on, he did have few moments where he thought something like "well when I get my body back I won't be able to see them again I guess so whatever".Only after Haibara came into picture Conan started actually thinking more about the DB and it was I think during the times he still thought Haibara could have been a bad guy and when he joined the group that she started paying more attention on them or something? I can't remember well but anyway the recent case is a prime example on how Conan actually trusts them all now. He even got Ayumi to "bug" herself to try and steal something as minor and what we could call useless as what kind of songs does Haibara like and listen to? Well Ayumi decided not to go through with that and it was actually kind of cute when you look at the overall story.
This also and I honestly don't care what people think of what they're doing but this definitely looks... homey or something. Haibara seems to be doing better job than the DBs own parents... Genta deserved that slap...

Thanks for the info, I have always seen Haibara as an expy of Irene Adler, but getting Word of God for that is awesome!Citra Zaoldyeck wrote:Jd- wrote:This topic has almost 12,000 posts...? Wow... Wow.
soo? nothing changes right, ShinRan still win, and haters gonna hate, meanwhile lovers gonna love it more :p
ah yeah but ....
"『名探偵コナン』(1994年 - 連載中) - 灰原哀
少年漫画。作中の科学者・宮野志保の「灰原哀」という偽名は、原作中ではコーデリア・グレイとV・I・ウォーショースキーから取られているとされていたが、2014年、アイリーン・アドラーから取られていることが作者より公言された。"
read that on wiki
Btw, Is anyone else annoyed at Haibara being "demoted" to the 4th db? Due to the sheer length of the series of course everyone got flatter, but imho she lost the most "potential". I'm still rooting for Gosho to rekindle Ai's and Conan#s interaction from pre 345, not to get them together in the end, mind you, that will never work. But you could use that to provide so much material for development not just for Ai and Conan but also for the ShinRan relationship, which at that point of course is inevitable.
By making Conan acknowledge Ai's feelings have him "consider" the possibility (we were close in the infamous "bed scene"), would force him to thoroughly reflect upon all aspects of his current situation prompting major character development and in the end, making his decision for Ran more powerful. Excuse me while I go write a fanfic

Call me pragmatic or a turn coat, but I think in the end everyone will be happy, The OTP will get their happy end after a long journey and some struggles, haibara can get back in the spotlight and AiCon can get a proper closure
Sorry for the ramble, been away for this forum for a bit, had to get a few thoughts of my chest

Re: Ai + Conan
I personally think Gosho completly gave up on coai,so I doubt we'll see Ai showing feelings toward conan...She now act like a tsundere, she appreciate Conan of course, but she respects Ran's feeling which is nice for me.Ai really do everything to help Conan in his relationship with Ran,which shows Ai cares about people(like during the London case),and because of that I'm not really into a Coai pairing anymore.I do miss the coai interaction from pre 345,but I know Gosho won't do that anymore.
In a way I like that,I don't really want Ai to be the third wheel, waiting for Conan to realize she's perfect for him.I want Ai to find hapiness with someone else, she deserves that.
But I do agree I'm annoyed that Gosho kinda portrays her as the 4th DB,in the story.I loves the Ai from the beginning,so spiritual and melancholic. She used to think a lot about her situation, her life.now she lost that and enjoys life like a kid, which is becoming annoying in a way.Let's hope the BO plot will make her go back to the great character she used to be.

Re: Ai + Conan
In Gosho's defense he kind of shot himself in the foot with Ai, she was properly setup as a character integral to the main plot and major potential to prompt character devlopment in conan (as well as stir up the status Quo for ShinRan). In the end throttling the plot to "drag" dc out, forced to cut back on Ai, pushing her to the sidelines. The Alternative would be to put her on a bus, but the fans would have gone rabid.AICHAN wrote:I personally think Gosho completly gave up on coai,so I doubt we'll see Ai showing feelings toward conan...She now act like a tsundere, she appreciate Conan of course, but she respects Ran's feeling which is nice for me.Ai really do everything to help Conan in his relationship with Ran,which shows Ai cares about people(like during the London case),and because of that I'm not really into a Coai pairing anymore.I do miss the coai interaction from pre 345,but I know Gosho won't do that anymore.

During the big times of plot starvation every character was flattened a bit and most simply froze in development, leading to flanderization in minor characters. However I don't think keeping pre 345 Ai around would have been an option, being always broody and snarky wears itself out if it leads nowhere (ok, they could have keep the snark, but a proper snarker takes quite some effort).
Resolving the AiXCo subplot before dropping Ai out of focus had been possible, but back then Gosho propably thought, "I'll get back to it",after all he had devoted quite sometime to build it up and it was hugely popular.
Long story short, I don't think we could have really changed what happened to Ai and the actual pairing won't happen. But when Gosho ultimately does away with the Status Quo for the grand finale arc, I hope he takes sometime to build up the old Ai again and give some of her plotlines the necessary attention, when he ties up loose ends. Conan and Ran also suffer dearly from not being able to progress much.
When I started DC I always thought that Conan eventually would have to undergo a development arc where his "predicament" forced him reevalute his cockiness in light of his reduced capabilites as a child, making him more respectful of those on his side (the db, the police) and more of a team player. "Old" DC had overtones of this. but it was never resolved. I thought and still think that this was due for the finale to give him a nice development and a lesson learned. And Haibara appeared to be the right taskmaster to get this through to him

AiCo may be gone, and I stopped pulling for it, but I won't stop rooting for the greatness of this series, so make us proud Aoyama-sensei

I agree with what you said...
But actually I read DC mostly for Ai and BO plot, which is why I'm kinda disappointed at Gosho for the way he handle that character. So I guess if Gosho wastes her potential,I will stop reading DC(i may read it for curiosity, but i won't be a fan as much as I am now).I don't care anymore about Aiconas a couple but I do enjoy their interactions.I just hope Gosho will stop adding new characters, and focus more on the current characters who still have a lot of potential and need more development(I think about Ai,Ran,Heiji and Kazu...)
