End of Night 5...
He thumbed carefully through the broken glass on the table where the bodies of the famous singer and the teenage detectives had lain until recently. There was blood on the glass.
He huffed in frustration. The riot that had killed the American FBI agent earlier that day had turned what would have been a fairly straightforward crime scene into a complete mess. Shards of glass had dug into the corpses and left blood that had nothing to do, as far as he was concerned, with their actual deaths. Splinters of wood from the ruined storefront and flecks of dust and paint similarly confused things. He’d have a hard time straightening all this out.
The teenager’s teacup had been shattered in the fight, spilling what he suspected was poisoned tea all over the table. He sighed and began carefully bagging the fragments. At least the singer's teacup was still whole, though it had been knocked over. He supposed it was too much to ask for fingerprints (surely they’d have been more careful than that), but it never hurt to make sure.
He stood up and looked sadly around the ruined café. Poirot had been one of his favorite places to relax and eat dinner after work. He hoped they had insurance, and that the poisonings wouldn’t hurt business too badly.
Thinking about the poisonings, he frowned. So far, it seemed there had been all of the secondary, but none of the primary traces of poisoning in the two victims, almost as if the poison had erased itself after entering their bodies. He hoped to find some on the cup or in the tea.
He stood up and stretched. For now, he needed to get his evidence bags to the police lab. He made his way out of the café, stepping carefully over broken glass.
He had just made it out the door when something crashed into the back of his head. He stumbled and fell to his knees, stars exploding onto his vision. He shook his head, trying to clear it, but before he could turn around, he felt the cold metal of a gun barrel pressed into the back of his head.
“Now, sit still for just a minute,â€
