About time I get to show this off (even if I worry that I'll regret it ).

OK, so this is the big contribution I wanted to make to the forums. For various reasons I've been wanting to try out some different things to test out what I can do that's entertaining, but only in the past few months have I had any real motivation to do so. And Let's Plays are what all the cool kids are doing so I might as well try this, and it isn't like I haven't been interested in them for quite some time.

Q: But what is all this about?
A: For the people who have lives and don't know what Let's Play is, it is basically just people commentating over a video game, that's all it is essentially. They're a big thing on Youtube (for better or worse) nowadays in case you haven't noticed. And I thought it'd be fun to try this out. Now I did try a screenshot Let's Play before but screenshot LPs of action video games is a terrible idea, don't do it. This is much simpler and much better as far as I'm concerned.

For now it's gonna be very basic, just posting videos that I hope you'll enjoy and we'll see how it goes. Later on, if I can find some good games for it, I'd like to get you guys to add something to the LP (I do have an idea for a game already to do that with). I appreciate any sort of feedback or comments in general. For the sake of the forum, I'd prefer the comments to mostly be in the thread instead of Youtube comments.

Now, for the first game...



LP #1: Metroid Prime

Metroid Prime is a 2002 action adventure/first person shooter video game created by Nintendo and (at the time) new developer Retro Studios. It was the first of Nintendo's popular Metroid franchise in 8 years. Despite some initial complaints about taking one of Nintendo's most beloved iconic series and turning it into a first person shooter, the game received incredible acclaim after its release. It is in fact, one of the most critically acclaimed video games of all time. It was praised for flawlessly taking what was beloved about the Metroid series and flawlessly recreating it in a 3D, first person environment.

It is my favorite video game of all time.

This Let's Play will be in video format. The plan right now is to release 2 videos per week, trying to mostly stay within a 15-20 minute length. I will be going for 100% completion in both items and (hopefully) scan data. I am also playing on hard mode.

I can tell how much you love Metroid by the minimal levels of snark XD

Definitely want to watch this. This is one of those famous, classic games that I never played because I'm a pussy who panics when shot at unless it's with a green shell.

Well I don't want to awkwardly fail at jokes when I could just state things about the game. Honestly for live commentary this was better than expected but I should try to see if I can get this program to allow for post-commentary just in case.

And yeah, this game can be pretty intense despite not being M rated. There's a creepy atmosphere in this game at points and some intense fights.

Oops. Wanted to post something but forgot about that D:
Here is some... advice? Better said my thoughts about it:

[*] Volume: Maybe it was just for me. But I had to turn up the volume of the video up quite a lot. The whole video is recorded too quiet? But the difference between your voice and the game sounds is good (aka. I can hear your voice clearly and not just the game sound)

[*] Voice: You're speaking clear and slowly, which is good Sometimes you tend to say the end of your sentences quieter. Or sometimes you say some sentences as if you whisper them (usually when you comment something that's "less important")

[*] First Video: You said the name of the game. But you didn't really say what this game is or is about. I would put in one or two sentences about the game at the beginning too. Like it's a shooter and a bit about the story. (you talked about it around the middle of the video first)
I don't think you need to explain the controls that much Seemed to me you explained more about the controls than about the story D:
Well, you didn't want to say much about the story, that's what you said in the video. But right after that you said that you talked a bit about it anyway ^^" I'd prefer some brief story explanation over control explanation.
First video had a lot of scanning.

[*] Second Video: Here was less scanning and more action Made it more interesting than the first video obviously.
Was nice to watch What you could add maybe is, how you fight the mobs or which mobs are harder or if there are tricks to beat some of them (since you play on hard, what's the difference and if it is much of a difference etc.) Just an idea what to talk about maybe? (that's what would interest me when I see people play)


All this is of course just what I thought about it

I did put the game volume down a bit in order to not get drowned out by it. I might test to see if I can do a better job of staying semi-louder in order to get the volume up. Or something, I'll try...something.

And yeah, the first video actually started with a little bit more explanation for a number of things, but I cut it out because I didn't originally think I'd be able to get past a 15 minute time limit. Things slow down a bit after this area is done, so I might get the chance to better explain things. I'll try to go into the story when I can, but the full story of this game really is in the scan data you find and the back story won't take long to explain I think.

I have pretty much the same sentiments as manga and Kleene. With manga I'm the same in the fact that Metroid was always a series I was curious about but could NOT play because I can't stand being shot at, let alone shooting things WHILE being shot at @_@; Definitely a "I'll just watch" type of game

As for Kleene's points, I essentially agree. Good sound difference, nice that you're speaking clearly - though the video volume wasn't too low for me. I was wearing headphones, though, maybe that's the way to go?

First video did have a lot of tutorial/scanning, but having watched so many LPs this is a staple of the first few episodes. I'm also interested in the story and specific battle tactics (which enemies are different and why, etc). I think it'd be interesting to hear a summary or something of the story, since you know the game so well. It'd probably be easier to understand what's going on hearing it from a person than reading the scans

I do appreciate any positive commentary I get, even if I'll not stop being surprised by it.

For scans, I just think there's too many times where I can't commentate over the gameplay if I try to talk about them too much (and yes, I will put my favorite game above my own commentary for its ability to tell its story :V) but I did do some of that in the videos I recorded yesterday.
