similar progression here with a friend recommending gamefaqs, though it wasn't gamefaqs itself for me- as i was never a fan of their forums, but it was there that found a great forum (a fire emblem discussion forum) that was where i really got into the internet. downloading stuff on limewire was a revelation as well when i first did it, as ridiculous as downloading a song in 30 minutes feels today.
