Also, how could you possibly watch 1000 anime titles? Assuming they last 30 minutes per episode, and every title has 50 episodes on average, you get over a million minutes! Even if you'd spend 8 hours per day watching anime, 365 days per year, you'd need 9 years for that! With 2 hours, as a far more realistic (but still high) amount, it'd take 36 years. Do otakus over 40 actually exist?

otakus over 40 definitely exist, but you're also way overestimating the length of an anime episode. The typical episode length tends to be ~22ish without commercials, and 20 or lower if you remove the OP/ED, and even lower if you remove the previous episode recap that some shows have, so that's reducing that 9 or 36 years to 6 or 24.

Not to mention, saying the average title has 50 episodes is another huge overstatement. The majority of shows nowadays have around 26 or 13 episodes, so if someone just focuses on those that cuts the time from 6 or 24 years to 1.5-3 or 6-12 years. There's also movies, which are only around as long as six 20 minute episodes.

2. like akonyl said about the average is only 13 eps.. most of the otaku didnt watch or or only watch 1 of the long anime like DC / Naruto / Bleach / one piece.


and my score is high because of this:
1. i have 4 TB full with anime & manga
2. i buy manga
3. i collect anime figure and model kit.

i only watch around 200 or so title of anime. because i hate to drop some series unless it really is bad.

and in japan, you have around 15-25 new title each year that will only run for 4-6 month  so if you already became otaku for 10 years, that will make you watch around 200 title but tehy also watch other anime that came out as OVA, OAD, or MOVIE... so getting 1000+ in 10-15 years is normal.

DC is one of the series that have lots of eps.

each anime is around 24 minutes. but if you fast foward the opening song, ending song, last episode review, next episode preview.. you will only have around 16 minutes
