Monogatari Series Thread

I realized that a lot of the animes I've been watching lack an appropriate thread, and instead of just talking about it in the 'Currently Watching' thread, I should actually go and make their respective topics.

I just finished Bakemonogatari, and I really don't know what to think of it.  A part of me really enjoyed it, but a lot of points I was just like "really?"  

Mainly, the highlight of the series IMO was Hitagi.  What an awesome character, and literally a blend of all the 'dere' character archetypes.

I'm not a big fan of the artstyle with the slideshow-like title cards and notations.  Meh.  I felt like it was some hipstery "unique" expression that just didn't click with me.

I haven't seen such good character dialogue and interaction since Spice and Wolf, which is what makes this series really shine.  The OST is also very good, and then I noticed it's the same composer from the Haruhi OST, which I think is awesome.

What really irked me is the forced importance of pretty boring arcs.  I could really care less about Nadeko (besides Renai Circulation) or Mayoi or that lesbian basketball girl, yet their arcs were freaking longer than Senjougahara's o__o.  I pretty much only continued to watch this series for Senjou~.

I'll watch Nise very soon, but yeah, I'm in a weird place in deciding if I actually liked this series or not.

EDIT: Also, the batch that I have includes like a bunch of commentary  FLAC files, which I haven't really looked into.  What exactly are these?  If they are just audio files..how are we going to see the translation o___o (CoalGirls btw)

I don't feel like judging a series ranger likes but at the same time blatant ecchi series often scream "liked by obese people" to me. There are way too many shameful nerds that these type of series attract that are right up there with "true fans" elitist assholes as people who I never want to see or hear from again.

I think they're character commentaries.  I believe there was a group working on subbing them, but not sure if they finished.  Also, from the spoilers I've read for later books, Nadeko and Mayoi become very important characters.  Not sure about Kanbaru.

I don't feel like judging a series ranger likes but at the same time blatant ecchi series often scream "liked by obese people" to me. There are way too many shameful nerds that these type of series attract that are right up there with "true fans" elitist assholes as people who I never want to see or hear from again.

Shouldn't judge a series by its sequel, especially when said judging is based on select screenshots from people who like to rile up the internet.  That said, the sequel does use more erotic poses and situations, but that's just the sequel, not the original.

Honestly, I watched this series mainly because people wouldn't shutup about it.  The ecchi scenes can get annoying, especially when its like your typical loli or brotherly love, but its nothing that I really haven't seen before now that I have delved into the anime world.  I mean, shit I've seen all of Sekirei season 1.  

The one beef that I will just flat out state is that there's far too much lolicon shit in here.  I actually got a lot of backlash in a chatroom talking about Bakemonogatari, how I thought it was over the top ~ and I was met with common 4chan rebukes as a "normalfag".

I mean, this series is really wishy-washy on me, like I stated in my first post -  I really don't know if I like it or not.  It excels really well in certain things (primarily..one unique character, OST, dialogue) and it lacks in other categories.  

Basically, I really don't give a shit about any other character besides Senjougahara and Araragi.
