You know what I'd change? The 'childhood friends forced to leave after knowing each other a little while and then finding and dating the other person later on' device. It's so repetitive it's annoying (ShiratoriXKobayashi, ChibaXNaeko, AgasaXFusae, etc.). I also think that if you know someone since you were a kid, and have been hanging out with them ever since, you wouldn't fall in love with them b/c you're so used to being around them you just focus your sights elsewhere. (ShinichiXRan, HeijiXKazuha, etc.) I'm not saying I dislike any of the pairings; I just don't think they would actually happen in real life. But that's just me.

I agree on all accounts EXCEPT for Shiratori x Kobayashi. That's the only one I find to actually sort of work. I mean, Kobayashi was a huge motivator in Shiratori's goal to be a police officer and he actually set his sights elsewhere (Satou) for quite some time until he got it right. Not to mention, that was actually a meeting in passing not an actual friendship. I mean, the whole reason he fell for Satou accidentally is because he didn't know the little girl's name. So the childhood love thing, I believe anyway, works out for those two

For the others, yeah, it is pretty annoying

one case telling the childhood and pondering it, meeting and a little friendship then remembering childhood "oh you are the one!"-> relationship and on you go!

and what I would change in the series?
Ran knowing from the beginning...or Kogoro...
and deciding to wait until he tells...and I don't know how to incorporate it...

Ran knows from the beginning, beats the tar out of Gin and Vodka and acquires APTX. Shinichi goes back to normal and summons the [/s] dark forces of[s] FBI, CIA, MI6, Interpol and the Powerpuff Girls to destroy the BO. The whole thing lasts four volumes max, with a fifth volume of Kid being awesome.

Something that really annoys me about Detective Conan: The technology and seasons change with the present, but the year does not.  If no one has aged, then shouldn't it be somewhere in the early 1990's? Grr.  Also, this may sound a bit odd, but I wish the style could change to match the episode, because it really affects the feel of the show..
