That insanity aside, the first ever case longer than 4 episodes (...depending on how you view the entire hospital plot in Clash of Red and Black) is over and HYYYYYYYPE indeed. I said I was worried about this episode. I had a feeling this case was kinda have an unsatisfying conclusion and boy did it ever!

...well, that's half true. For much of the first half, it was a really suspenseful story of Minerva making sure the match doesn't end so that her mother won't die. And she fails and you're like "no!" but it's ok, "TENNIS EX MACHINA" (didn't annoy me, unlike...er...). Very surprised at how much I enjoyed that part. Minerva's great btw, just a really good, fun character. And of course the Shinran stuff. ...yep.



So anyway, I hate it when I'm right. I knew Yukiko would appear, I knew she had the antidote, sigh. Detective Ex Machina is here to save the day. Sigh. That's it? I mean, sure they certainly ignored that for much of the case, but it's really lazy and wasn't even foreshadowed (if only the anime team were given a chance to fix that...hm...).

But that wasn't the worst part. You have this great evil villian as the culprit, multiple disguises, amazing voice. He's built up for over 5 episodes, has brilliant plans where in order for Conan to even find out a single message, Minerva has to try to be as insane as Prince of Tennis characters...and he's defeated by a tennis ball kick as soon as Conan finds him. And they didn't play the Conan theme for that. And he dissappears 30 seconds later. Dissappointing.  :(

So,  this was a case I enjoyed a lot that was partially ruined in the last episode. Deja vu? To be a bit more positive though, even if it's contradicted later, Ran and Kogoro taking Conan somehwat seriously is some good character developement and hopefully recent hints to both characters being suspicious of Conan actually lead somewhere and this was Gosho writing these characters with that in mind.

Oh and the confession. Honestly, it's one of the few romantic scenes in this series that genuinely deserves the praise the relationships get. If I was a girl I'd legit be like "AWWWW!" and stuff. And hilariously in character for Shinichi, which I approve of. Good use of music too. Now part of me wants to rant about how the brilliant manga Ai-ren is proof to even me (the stupid guy who has never had a girlfriend) that cute love stories can be done 10000 times better than almost all of the other relationship moments in this series, but I probably shouldn't waste people's time.

I agree, the setup was very suspenseful, but the parents ex machina was pretty lame.  Although the shinran moment was okay, the fact that it was done in a flashback was pretty bad too.  I do have to say that I like the fact that at no time was Shinichi at any real risk of being discovered to be Conan, and there was none of the usual "oh no, I've got to get away before I change in front of the world" business.  So, all in all, it was a decent series, but definitely not one of their best.

Looking forward to more manga-based stuff to come!

It was a little jarring because the dialogue in the corresponding manga chapter was perfectly sensible English.  Why the anime people decided to change that to Engrish is baffling.

As far as "Thank you," though, I believe that's the only thing the chair umpire at Wimbledon typically says when trying to control the crowd.

Unless I'm mistaking, the english in the manga is actually corrected in the translation process. I remember reading Gosho's english and it's not error-free.

While the outcome still sounds jarring, each of the dialogues kkslider mentioned was not wrong per se.
So they're supposed to go:

"Never do it!"
[Conan, in a shut-up-and-let-me-do-my-thing-already expression] OK... Sorry!
"Thank you." (=Shut up.)

case in general was good, obviously too dragged out, but good intensity, music, and setting (also, the one time i went to london i watched wimbledon (the men's finals though), so yeah, i have to like this case).

I could totally tell it was Yukiko back when sunglasses lady first appeared on the manga. Because she used this exact disguise before, in episodes 144-145. So yes, it was foreshadowed, slightly.

Oh snap, things about to get real.  I thought the chasing down Conan/Agasa was pretty funny, and who was that mysterious lady in the end?!  Yukiko !!

Hmm just a theory but I still think that mysterious girl is Yukiko and she's going to  pull some shenanigans to get Kudo back to Japan.

This was from the first episode of the London Arc, knew that girl was Yukiko, I don't read the manga either..

In general this whole case was hella easy to predict, the whole lob thing to find her mom, heads swaying back and forth, yukiko being here.

I didn't expect Yusaku to be here, we haven't seen him since that North Star Train episode back in the 140s!  Also, it was kind of a cop-out for Ai to have packed another pill :/ then again if I was Ai I would have known too.

Actually, we've seen Yusaku in flashback cases (472-473 and 490). The "North Star Train Case" was the last time we saw Yusaku interact with Conan (and not Shinichi) in a manga based case (since 418 was a filler).
