I hate fanservice, this is fanservice to an extent which had not even been reached by Movie 14, so I hate this OVA. No matter how great a character she is, Haibara can't save this OVA from being just a piece of junk (especially not the AO Haibara).

There is an Easter Egg inserted into this release by us. I usually don't post about them at all when they are in there (you never know when or where), buuuut for this one, I figured I may as well.

It is in the picture below:

Can you spot and recognize it without looking at the original? (Below)

Mitsuhiko was a lot of fun in this, but Ai didn't make it any better at all.

Overall, it was garbage.

Gotta agree with this line.

Like...I didn't hate this OVA, but...I didn't like it either. I basically watched it, blinked, and then sat staring at nothing for another 20 minutes or so wondering what just happened.

Well, I figured it out: 20-25 minutes or so of my life were gone, add on another 20 because of the aftermath. I can see where people would find the awesomeness in this OVA, I can see it, I just don't personally feel it.  :-\

I'm sad to say that even the ET rip-off with the alien ranks higher than this for me because for that I at least laughed and watched it over, this OVA... Yeeah, not so much

@Jd-: Um...

There's a phone number for customer service? ...Maybe even...

Eh I saw it as a break from the death and crime and basically had a goofy adventure with ridiculous coincidences, but then again, believing that as someone is dying they come up with some of these elaberate dying messages is too.  I just take it for what it is, basically a slice of life episode with some creepy scouts for...a modeling or whatever agency and let it slide.  Sure the purposely misled you with some scenes, but it also showed, non canonwise, that Mitsuhiko can put a decent theory together, regardless of how crackpot it is lol.  Still to each their own, I laughed and went to my internship, others had this look  ??? and went on with their day.=p

Oh and for the ending scene.....holyloli is all im going to say, I didn't really expect that.

But his crackpot theory was decently accurate, despite how crackpot it was.

Another round of fodder for the funny captions thread. \o/

Dus wrote:The only good part was Mitsuhiko's crackpot theories being spot-on. The rest was tedious at best and disturbingly loli at worst.

Kinda agreed here, some of it was cute/funny/whatever, but I couldn't enjoy even those parts too much because I was constantly uncomfortable with  the child porn star pictures and Ayumi/Haibara sexycandy shots. :P

The best parts were the Mistuhiko/Genta interactions (I think I really just said that, yeah :o) and CheerfullyPointlessInYourFace!Okiya giving the kids the Kudous' hot chocolate. But Okiya makes me happy no matter what he does or doesn't do, so XD.

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree, it was a rather believable theory, which made it even more funny how all the pieces were falling into place, and it turns out to be something different.  Just a non canon showing that Mitsuhiko might end up a pretty good detective himself if Gosho ever decided to have a series of him grown up.  Regardless, I actually rather liked the episode, something to laugh at the beginning of my day.

I think Mitsuhiko has a good chance of being a good detective.  No Shinichi, but really solid.
I really liked this OVA!!!  I mean, most of the OVAs (and AOs for the matter) aren't super great writing, but it was fun, and that's what matters.  I don't thinkd it was ever supposed to be this amazing work of art, it's just for fun.  So I loved it.

It's unfortunate that this OVA runs on so much coincidence.  I didn't find Haibara to be too far out of character since I feel like she has a soft spot for the DB and Ayumi in particular (though the slip about her age and referring to Ayumi by something other than Yoshida-san was a bit jarring).  Even so, Haibara's awesomeness is mitigated by the lack of internal logic.  I mean, I can think of a simple story where the shady spooks shadowing Haibara are photographers doctoring her photo to put on magazines, that "Grace Aihara" could be a person they made up to sell issues, and maybe the DB (minus Conan) would deal with them, only to have Gin and Vodka come in trying to track Haibara down.  Destroy the evidence, stay one step ahead of them, maybe wrap it up by the time Conan's plan lands.

But I'm not a professional story writer, so the criticism has to stand by itself.  It was funny seeing how close Mitsuhiko got to the truth.  It was funny seeing Haibara own Agasa hard.  Overall, it was diverting, if not quite as satisfying as it could've been for all the contrivances.

the main reason I approve of this being stickied is so that it gets in the way less of other discussion threads and other threads in general. I don't like it when pairing threads are 1/2 the 1st page, same with my own topics.

The actual story, that Agasa secretly orders peanut butter and blueberry jam for himself without Ai knowing is actually a great and fun idea.
However the whole thing was ruined by Ai, Ayumi fanservice. That was rather disturbing and disgusting to me. I mean, they are kids, even if Ai isn't, but they are...so ... ugh...

I have a feeling it might just have to do with the wrong and disturbingly vague laws that may or may not end up passing. Especially since I believe underage kids in anime/manga with even fairly tame sexual references(I believe even if those elements are completely separate in a series, but I can't remember) would be in trouble. And considering this is Detective Conan, and especially considering certain scenes in the series, I don't think they are happy about it.

Of course, the more likely explanation is that they are idiots and some anime fans are creepy.

Well, as long as Ayumi and Haibara don't wear makeup regularly... I enjoyed the change. When do we have the chance to see them a bit different from their usual self if not in an OVA?

It's like all the other OVAs: Don't expect too much (come on, after 10 OVAs you should have learned that lesson by now!), prepare for some strange things and enjoy the hilariousness! That's what makes an OVA.

If you want Canon, watch the Manga-based cases only. OVAs are the complete opposites of it.

Again, I enjoyed it. Being a Detective Boys "case" I might be a bit biased though. Extra bonus-points for Haibara-Ayumi interactions. :)
