Don't think he specifically says they are in London, but is just excited to be there. He is in western Europe, far, far from Japan. Of course he is going to dream even more about going everywhere notable from Holmes' stories, even if it is a few hours away.

Maybe it's an in-joke? For readers that know where it is to show how excited he is.  ???

No, in Europe we generally don't go on day trips to other countries, y'know. And you've not considered that London is accross the sea from the rest of Europe, it'd cost loads and wouldn't be worth it for just going for a day.

Comparatively, distance from JP to London >>>>>> distance from London to Bern and he's a complete nut over Holmes so it's within the realm of reason

(not necessarily GOOD reason...)

Well, you can't simply drive through the channel tunnel. You have to load your car onto a train, which is a lot less convenient than simply driving all the way.
Detective Movies Contest 2013: Information Thread  Current Faceoff

"The energies of our system will decay; the glory of the sun will be dimmed, and the earth, tideless and inert, will no longer tolerate the race which has for a moment disturbed its solitude. Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."

Also, Shinichi was able to pay a plane ticket for himself as shinichi and for agasa (or agasa was able to) . So it wouldn't be a problem to take a trip to the other countries, which aren't so far away anyway.

Doesn't negate what I said.

Actually, I think Diana paid for Agasa's ticket.  And we learned in Desperate Revival that Shinichi is allowed to toss around his dad's credit card however he pleases, so...

First of all, the tickets are not ideal for a day trip. Plus, if they came straight from the airport they probably haven't hired any cars and that'd have to be payed for too, it'd be ideal to hire one when they're in France 'cause of them driving on the wrong other side of the road and getting a car in England would mean that the wheel would be on the wrong side for the cars once they cross the channel, of course that'd mean they'd have to get a car in London, drive through the tunnel while paying on the day (which affects prices) then pay for long stay parking and hire another car in France and drive down, then there are fuel and food costs and they'd be using pounds if they'd just come from Britain so that'd have to be converted to euros which would make them lose loads of potential money because of the conversion rates. Then there's the at least 2 hours drive (I'm not fully certain of the time)  to get to the place and then they'd get about half an hour before they had to go back again.

That better?
And besides, he's stuck as a kid for the time they're in London (which rules out the plane 'cause of the no passport thing), how is he supposed to persuade the others to let him go there / go with him there and I think Kudou'd want to spend more time in the place where Holmes 'spent most of his life' than where he faked his death, much more to do there and there's the museum and other stuff...

....Ah, right, the internet returned fully so I checked the Eurotunnel website again and... you need your passport to use it~! Guess he couldn't go after all...

First of all, that link is horrible.  Here's one that works.  :P  http://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/tickets/

And I don't really see how they're not ideal for a day trip.  22 pounds each way would be about 2800 yen each way.  That's chump change for any level of vacation.

they'd be using pounds if they'd just come from Britain so that'd have to be converted to euros which would make them lose loads of potential money because of the conversion rates.

Unless the conversion rates are fluctuating like wild fire on an hourly or daily basis, all they'd lose would be the cost of conversion.  22 pounds is about 2800 yen is about 25 euro.  It works the other way as well.  It's not like you have to "trade up" or "trade down" when converting; you just trade.  And I don't know what you've seen, but the conversion fee is usually a pitiful $5 or so.  Hardly a "load" of money.

....Ah, right, the internet returned fully so I checked the Eurotunnel website again and... you need your passport to use it~! Guess he couldn't go after all...

He also said this before Haibara had reminded him he needed a passport to even get to England, so the argument is null.
