I think Sonoko will be featured in the fourth episode - just read an article about how Mizobata Junpei surprised Akimoto Sayaka while filming. Apparently, he requested a retake on a certain scene then, acting in character as Kudo Shinichi as if giving a deduction, he said "July 26th is Akimoto Sayaka's birthday!" or something like that. XD

Actually, the uniform-wearing everywhere is quite common in Japan... at least that's what we've been taught. Students where it also on weekends sometimes instead of casual clothes for some reason. And notice also some artists - they were the same clothes they wore in a PV during live performances (e.g. Music Station).

Hmm, there's something that's been bothering me for a long time now.

Have Detective Sato and Detective Takagi met Kudo Shinichi BEFORE he became Conan? Wasn't Sato introduced to the series after Miyano Shiho? And wasn't Takagi transferred under Megure after Sato was introduced to the viewers?

And during the first episode, Shinichi called Kogoro for advice on the case (how to check if a man's been living in a woman's apartment or something). In the first episode of the anime, Shinichi/Conan if I remember correctly didn't know how lousy a detective Kogoro actually was (otherwise he would've made that 'yeah right' face when Agasa suggested he stays with Ran because her father was a detective).

... so I'm just wondering if the series' setting is really before he became Conan...

It's bound to have some incongruences. You should just watch it without trying to make everything fit canon. You are going to end up nuts if you try
