Underrated Cases

Postby dilbertschalter » April 11th, 2011, 11:02 am

There have been enough "your favorite x" topics to make a "your favorite "your favorite x" topic viable, but this is that I wasn't able to find, though it may well exist: what are some cases that you think are underrated? By that I mean under-appreciated and/or disliked. Some thoughts of mine:

144-145: I am sucker for anything with trains and this episode just has a great action/suspense flavor to it.
166-168: The MO is a little unrealistic, but pretty much everything else about it is sweet.
121-122: So sad. :(

Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."

132-134 : an awesome case with a very complex trick
212-213 : a great emotional DB case

Agreed with all of those you have mentioned.  I might add episode 77-78 as well. That was awesome, plus epi 52.

180-181: really good for an AO, overshadowed by the cursed mask case just a couple of episodes later.
418: I only saw this once but it was really fun, if a less interesting version of 43.
366-367: Pretty much no one talks about this case like...ever. Some really nice character related scenes as well as a really good poison case.
571-572: Easily the best Detective Boys case in forever, and one that reminds me why I liked those cases in the first place. Not to mention references to a bunch of different cases, Okiya Subaru's pointless cameo #12, Conan hanging up on Kobayashi mid-sentence and a cool little story with Heiji secretly helping the DB.

Great call on 180-181. This is another one where they did a great creating an atmosphere (reminds me of 88-89 in some ways).

I loved that case, it has one of the coolest AO characters ever : Tokudaji Masayo, some kind of anime version of Morticia Adams.

Another underrated case is 208, that none is just awesome.

most definitely. i was thinking of including it in the OP, but is a special so i decided not to include it.

too much agreement in this thread, i need to say something good about 225.

Actually, 225 would fit better in the "most overrated cases" thread. :P

indeed it is, quite a shame that full score of fear had to come up and tarnish the name of musical cases. i think it was 5th on my list of all episodes.

??: "The Mystery of High Sales" or whatever, the case where the guy helped the family restaurant so he could dig up his hidden jewels, and Conan couldn't solve it due to the suspect not being clever enough to fit his deductions.

I'm gonna throw Ikkaku Rock into the running as well. It doesn't get very much appreciation as an actual mystery (as is common with quite a few of the plot cases), but I enjoyed it quite a bit.
