Paper Craft

Postby Detective Tommy » October 4th, 2010, 12:48 pm

Does anyone know what those paper crafts are that have little folded pieces and they're attached with other little pieces to make a big object? Usually its of animals. Its a bit hard to explain.

... no. I know what origami is.
It might be considered origami.

But they take like little pieces of folded paper and fold them to make one huge object. Ill search for a picture.

I know how to make the pieces to make the ones that Shin has put up, but I don't know how to teach you well over the internet.

There's also modular origami (which I learned recently). Not sure if that's what you're talking about.

I would have to find out how to make the dragon one; I only know the swan one.

Just look at the first few pictures

The swan and dragons are examples of modular origami I think. That's what it looks like...
The boat one looks awesome...

The modular origami I know of are the less animal-like ones (the ones that look like you can decorate your Christmas tree with).
The boat is way too awesome. It's almost like they just want you to buy it and not learn how to make it.

I think this place has the dragon origami instruction: http://origami.bluepop.us/2007/09/chinese-dragon-diagram.html
Although the instructions are in Korean...

According to my origami teacher, a good sheet of paper to make the paper blocks that forms the dragon should be in the ratio of 3:7. You'll have to make hundreds of those little blocks to get the whole dragon though.

You have an origami teacher?

I need one... I wonder if anyone would actually buy the boat, if I made it.

Well, not one that I'm paying for. It's more like a friend who really knows what he's doing. I haven't had much of a chance to talk to him and I have found myself another "master". It's a club at my school for those who want to learn how to make stuffs.

They would, but you wouldn't find it worth your time for the money you make. The sail itself has at least a hundred of those paper blocks, which take FOREVER to get the right size and mass produce (trust me from my experience). I made 5 of the swan that Shin put up. That took me an exam period (between studying and exams) to make all the necessary paper before I constructed it (which was 10 hours). That was about 600-ish paper blocks per swan.

Wow... that must take forever.
Don't think I'll be doing that. :(
