Looking back, what are you thoughts now on the pre-Ai era?

Postby Brekclub85 » May 28th, 2010, 7:45 pm

Since DC has now gone through several plot and character developments over 10 years, it's almost weird to re-watch or re-read the early anime episodes and chapters of the manga.

Like the title topic says, what are thoughts on the early part of the series, before Ai was introduced in volume 18 and the plot really began to develop?

I'll personally always have a special place in my heart for the first 100-ish episodes. When all the episodes were mostly just filler mysteries, back when I first got into this series and didn't know how long it was going on, I always loved the tricks and mysteries, and I didn't mind that Conan didn't have any leads on the Black Organization, the cases were just fun to try to solve.

What about you guys?

I like the first few episodes but overall pre- Ai was boring. She brought meaning into the manga.

I thought that they were fun, and several episodes were awesome, though I kinda wanted some sort of plot development. And after Ai was introduced, everything...slightly sped up.

I love the old episodes, but I'm probably biased due to nostalgia.

I do remember the DB cases getting a lot more bearable after Haibara came, though.

Agree. Without Haibara I would shoot myself with so many DB cases.

The first episodes made me interested in DC.

The later episodes (Ai era) made me hooked to DC.

more like spelling era (edit: error (too funny to get rid of that))

pre-Ai stuff sometimes (perhaps often) had better cases (at least I realized this afterwards...and especially the last 20-30 episodes before she's introduced which is easily the most underrated part of the series).

But ignoring the first few cases and the early Heiji/Yukiko and Yusaku stuff, there was little plot before Ai so...yeah.

Hpmh...
I think that the cases in the pre-Ai episodes were much more interesting.
But the arc itself sucks. No BO and stuff. It wasn't like watching Conan at all. The story just goes by, without nothing really happening.
After Ai appears, we get to see more BO -> more Gin xDDDD

I'm glad Ai came xDDD

Many-many good cases were there, Kogoro's reunion, Night Baron, Heiji-stuff, also episode 96... Naturally the plot got better after Ai was introduced, but I like the first 128 episodes without her too.

Yeah, those were some of the best cases before Ai came along.

If Ai didn't appear, I think DC would have ended by now, maybe just about 200 episodes I guess..
After 13 years and 535 episodes... Finally! XD

Ai kinda brought plot with her, and made the whole thing far more serious. Before her, the Black Organization didn't really seem that scary, like they were just a high-end Yakuza gang or something. When Ai turned up, shit got real.
