yeah, the best animation was during episodes 300-400...with no doubts...
the style was better,i especially liked the drawing of  the eyes and the caracter's hair...now it looks like the drawing of the recent movies... :-\

that doesn't make much sense as the movies are typically 10 times better animation-wise

especially for the first few movies where it's like day and night

So I checked the early 300s of OP and found out that it was the Enies Lobby Arc... I didn't quite noticed the animation style as I was hooked by the story during that time... I skipped some scenes of the various characters' flashbacks... I think these episodes would probably have some inconsistencies in animation as the clips from older episodes can be reused...

DC's animation style really evolved through the years... Miwako wasn't that hot when I first saw her in the 1st ever Metropolitan Detective Love Story...

I think around 260-340ish was a really good period of animation.

However, I do think since 507+ the animation has gotten really good; I like the sharpness and the vibrant colors a lot, no more round headed big eared Conan anymore.

tbh, the only reason I went back and watched all of DC last year was because I found the old art style interesting (this's also why I started watching Lupin + watched Kaiji, I like when anime has its own distinct style). DC still has its own style yeah, but it was more unique back then.

I almost hate the new animation. The anime team is clearly lazy. Gosh, I hated Episode 567, the art was so bad and the voices too. I'm glad some older episodes are being subbed.. At least I can remember the good old days when the drawings were cute and very well done (Eps 300-400 FTW).

Even early animations are truly classic... Lupin III's, Cowboy Bebop's and Trigun's and early DC episodes gave me that impression...

yeah, the animation in all the episodes that aired on AS back in the day (because that's all I had to reference).

IMH I think that 300-450 had the best animation. The animation team now is LAZY. LOOK AT SHINICHI IN THE SHINIGAMI CASE AND YOU'LL KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

Good to see I wasn't the only person who thought "why is he so terribly rendered" when he "came back" for that case.

Agree, sometimes the animation is terrible. But I don't mind it when the AO episodes aren't in the best quality.
But I hate it when a AO episode has a better animation than a story episode! Or when a story case (with 2 episodes) has a good animation in the first part but then the second part is animated terrible... :/

Trying too hard. Step it up.
