) I'm just saying that the only reason people don't pay much attention to them is because Gosho is consistently hinting at other couples. He's hinted at AyuCon PLENTY of times, it's just that the hinting is greater in other couples, therefor causing people to say "canon" It's the people's choice to choose which hints they prefer, if that makes sense to you xD

There were even some routes taken for AyumixConan that I never thought of before.
Needless to say... you guys are just hilarious when thrown together, too. I don't think I've ever seen so many people bicker at the same time and then be laughing and joking the next minute! :D (But then again, this is my first time on a forum so this probably happens all the time! XD)
And I wanted to mention something else.
If Ran and Ai didn't exist, just flat out never existed in the story at all, and everything that happened between Ayumi and Conan still took place- wouldn't everybody say that AyuCon was canon? Their relationship resembles that of AmyxSonic from Sonic X (which is what got me into them in the first place- being the crazy Sonamy fan I am! x3) And because Sally and any other interests aren't in it- and all of the other girls show interest towards somebody else- Sonamy is basically the canon coupling (even though some people hate Sonamy and would disagree.)
(I have NOTHING against Ran or Ai.
Ran is actually a character that makes me reflect on my actions and think about what I'm doing, I even considered taking up karate at one point! XD*now, if we could get rid of that giant THING growing on her head and planning world domination...* And Ai Haibara is actually one of my favorite characters and I strongly support MitsuAi as well.)
I just wanted to point out that there were the points where Ayumi showed her feelings for Conan, he ran from them, only to show that he cared some other way- just maybe not possibly in THAT way.
I hope if you guys were already discussing something ELSE about the AyumixConan topic I didn't randomly try and change the subject... if you guys weren't straying off topic again already... (Told you I read it! XD Even though that MAY NOT be actual proof I did... there just isn't enough AyuCon fanfiction to keep me entertained these days... ;) )

It depends on your definition of "canon" when it comes to pairings.
It is canon that Ayumi loves - or at least has a crush on - Conan. This was shown in the Manga early on and so far she had not lost those feelings. To me, even this one-sided love is enough to make the pairing "Canon". The existence of other pairings does not change anything about that.
For example Hinata x Naruto does not become non-canon because Naruto never returned those feelings, right? And neither does Naruto x Sakura - if at least one is in love with the other and it is shown in the Manga, it is Canon, no matter how many fans or haters that pairing has.
So the real question would be: Would the acceptance - and the number of supporters - of Conan x Ayumi be higher if Ran and Haibara did not exist (or lived in Osaka and hardly interacted with Conan)?
My answer: Yes.
But would it change anything on the pairing itself?

Hating characters because they are "in the way of your favorite pairing" is pretty numb anyway.

Well, to be fair: Ayumi IS a little kid right now. But the fact that he did not outright reject her - like the manager girl of his soccer club - either means he is not taking her seriously at all or is at least paying some attention towards her feelings.
Feelings can change, given enough time. If he stays Conan long enough Ayumi will grow up and not be a little child anymore. He was also not in love when he (Shinichi) and Ran were in elementary school together, right? His behavior towards her then is similar to what he treats Ayumi like now.

You can constantly argue about a pairing, so yeah... we went a bit off-topic.
Also suffering from a lack of Ayumi x Conan fanfiction... I had made an outline for one last week but it is so much work to actually write it properly.
