What if in 10 years Shinichi still doesn't get his body back, or Ai is unable to find a permanent cure. Do you think there would be a bit more between Conan and Ayumi? instead of it being kind of one sided. or would he tell ran the truth and still be with her since the age difference wont matter as much?

What if in 10 years Shinichi still doesn't get his body back, or Ai is unable to find a permanent cure. Do you think there would be a bit more between Conan and Ayumi? instead of it being kind of one sided. or would he tell ran the truth and still be with her since the age difference wont matter as much?

It would probably depend on what Ran did.  Would she really wait around 10 years like the OVA indicated, or move on?  I imagine if she moved on to someone else, there would be a chance at this pairing actually happening.  If she is still waiting, than who knows lol.

By the way, am I the only one who sees some similarities between Ayumi and Ran when she was young? Both of them are quite clingy and glompy when it comes to Shinichi/Conan, both of them are afraid of ghosts, and I have noticed on rereading the manga that Ayumi will occasionally deflate Conan's head ("Stop playing it cool. Weren't you all excited about looking up unsolved cases?") If that's Shinichi's type, then if for whatever reason Shinichi has to give up on Ran and settle for his Conan-life, there's a chance for him and Ayumi. (Also, if OVA 9 and movie 5 are any indication, Ayumi is gonna be so cute when she grows up XD)

Well, this is exactly what Conan x Ayumi is based on. I mean, this is how a serious relationship between the two would develop (IMO).
At the moment Conan sees in Ayumi a cute little girl and a good friend, but that is all. However when he grows up again - and more importantly, if Ayumi grows up as well - this could change. Her personality and interest are fitting well with Conan (as Conan seems to work great with her as well) so I imagine that their relationship will develop pretty much exactly like Ran x Shinichi: Growing up as comrades, slowly deepening their relationship. Their common interests will make sure they stay in contact with each other to let that happen.

Now, what will happen with Ran? I think their big sister - little brother relationship that they de facto have already will continue to persist, Conan will change from "playing" that role to get completely used to it. Well, he pretty much did already. It doesn't seem like he could prepare dinner on his own anymore already.  
Also, after a few years where Shinichi would have only returned a few times for very short moments... they will slowly drift apart. There is no way to avoid that, at least not without telling her everything early. At some point Shinichi will have to accept that he just can't return to his old life anymore.
The only reason why he could miss school for all these months is because he is really, really smart and pretty much knows everything already. But at least when Ran applies for university he can't just "return". He would have to apply as a student, and write the entry test which is only held once a year.
Their lives would slowly drift apart. At some point they will have to accept that they can't continue waiting for each other forever.

Ohh sure, he could tell Ran anything, but that doesn't solve the problem that he is 10 years younger than her at the moment. No matter what, he would have to grow up naturally. Which would take 10 years which would be enough time for them to consider each going their own ways. And of course for Conan to develop feelings for Ayumi as well.

Why should he hate his live? Sure, he will have lost his first love (due to rather strange circumstances), but why should he not be able to find happiness with Ayumi? Sure, it would take a while, but as I said before: At his current physical age he would have to wait anyway for a serious romantic relationship.
And I think he would be very happy with Ayumi.

Well, if it were a movie it would have had a murder and bombs which would draw out everything so the story can go for 1 hour more. Sure, that's a lot of time for the "Teitan High Detective Club" (or however the Detective Boys will call themselves then) to get some more spotlight, but most of the extra time would be hogged by the mystery and even more Conan+Ran drama. I think it was okay the way it was in those 20 minutes.

No, I also think that Ayumi and Ran have a lot in common as well. Things that Shinichi/Conan seem to like in girls, so it would make his (future) relationship with Ayumi much more likely.
Though, Ayumi is missing some traits that made Ran clash with Shinichi needlessly. She is not superstitious, at least not more than an average person in the DC universe - of course a 7 year old is afraid of "ghosts", but once she gets a good rational explanation why the mysterious occurrence might have happened as well, she will believe that. Also, she does not try to hold him back from solving mysteries or "generously lets him go, making sure he knows that she is waiting for him" like Ran often does. Ayumi would accompany Conan and try helping. And Conan could explain her his reasonings.
Yeah, it makes them kinda like Sherlock Holmes (Conan) and Dr. Watson (Ayumi), where Holmes would try to explain everything to his follower. (Who will occasionally help him in some way or another.)

Again, Ayumi is some kind of "improved Ran". All the good sides (well, except maybe missing Ran's physical strenght at the moment which is sometimes crucial during a case when it comes to catching the criminal ), and she is even more compatible in other areas where Ran and Shinichi don't fit well to each other. I don't mind Ran x Shinichi as a pairing, I think they would work well. But Ayumi x Conan would work even better.
Ayumi being beautifully (or cute) - like Ran is considered as well - is of course a nice bonus.

I think I said it before: First, I don't expect their relationship to become serious until both of them are growing up again. So both would be in their teenage years already then.
Second: Ayumi x Conan is about Conan loving Ayumi not because of her age but despite of it. It is because their personalities and interests work well with each other.



So as a conclusion:
If Conan can not return to being Shinichi, I think that Conan x Ayumi is the most likely pairing for him. And of course it is the best pairing in DC period.
