"Almost, but Not Quite" Moments

Postby accidentalhero » May 3rd, 2008, 10:13 am

I was watching Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 7 when I remembered some episodes where the characters were so into the moment, but somebody snaps them out of it.

here's an example :

Takagi and Satou :D

Image

PS. that black thing at the bottom? it's Kogoro's head :P

I think there's loads of episodes with those moments, but i can't find them.

Help, anyone?

Sorry for not having a picture, but another scene was ep. 304, with Takagi and Sato being "interrupted" by Megure.

haha I feel sorry for them. Particularly Takagi and Satou. The guy just can't seem to get the words out.

Also, doesn't it seem weird that Ran never thought twice about the fact that: Shinichi had knowingly walked into a romance play (in his reappearance) and literally walked up to her and almost kissed her.

Did it like never occur to her that he nearly kissed her? And the next night he invites her to dinner (to an expensive restaurant), and she thinks he wants the notes he missed when he was gone? My God, she couldn't be more oblivious. Sorry for digressing, but the thought just occurred to me.

Ran is simply so dense and oblivious or she's just waiting for Shinichi to tell her what really is going on.

that's what I think. even in the Memories of First Love Case, when their senpai told them how Shin described the person he liked, Ran still didn't get it :o

Given her blush just after hearing the story (volume 18 file 5 page 18), I'd say she got it. She just didn't want Sonoko or especially Conan (who she was suspicious of at the time) to know she got it.

Really, the whole "Desperate Revival" arc was probably one of the biggest "almost, not quite" moments in anime history.

About to kiss girl -> someone screams bloody murder
About to PROPOSE to girl in a romantic restaurant -> someone screams bloody murder
In the end ->  girl doesn't know anything, guy back in kids body

and just when you thought they were getting somewhere!!!

I agree with you :) it's the most heartbreakingly annoying arc because a lot of things happened, but nothing really did.

well, here's a scene that didn't get anywhere thanks to Conan's intervention.

YAAYY! Conan and Araide-sensei saves the day :D

Hurrah for Takagi and Satou!

But there was a time when she was talking to Sonoko (my memory is blurry, either it was Sonoko or Kazuha, and I don't even remember when this was) and she was asked "Don't you wonder how he feels about you?"

Er... something along those lines... I dunno it just seemed like she really didn't know how Shinichi felt about her.

Also, I was just watching the episode involving Shiratori & Satou's accidental engagement meeting, and I was thinking Takagi is one lucky ass, considering the world was conspiring in his relationship with Satou. :P

And in starking contrast, Shinichi and Ran have it the worst. I'll bet if they ever do get together, and Shinichi ever proposes without getting interrupted, someone will scream bloody murder right before they make their vows during the wedding...  :-\ First episode - > the big shrink... second episode -> Shinichi's not back... five hundred episodes later... -> Shinichi is still not back.

It's both. Sonoko asked Ran if she wanted to know how he felt in 28.11p6, and Ran remembered that when she was talking with Shin'ichi in 30.1p3, with Kazuha nearby encouraging her to ask.

I can't believe that Ran didn't understand Asami thought Shin'ichi meant her, since, apart from the blush, Asami was answering Ran about why she tried to sabotage her pie. So, apart from the obvious possibility of a retcon, maybe Ran wanted to hear it from him to be absolutely sure Asami didn't jump to conclusions, or for his feelings for her to even count (stubbornness, rather than obliviousness). Maybe she was worried their time apart might make his answer different now than what she'd have expected from Asami's story.

Point taken. Ran's entire outlook toward Shinichi's feelings toward her could be similar to her suspicions of Conan being Shinichi - she is waiting to tell him how he feels/who he is. She wants it from him, inspite of all the obvious hints. She probably just refuses to pick them up...

Heading back to the topic, does anyone consider the Eri/Kogoro moment in the ep where he asks her to come back as an 'almost but not quite' moment? I mean, not kisses or hugs, but that's just about the last thing I expected him to say, ever!

Also, when Takagi and Satou were about to kiss in the 7th Love Story, you can see Kogoro in the rear view mirror :D, before his head is revealed.
