Not very well known in 2019, but apparently it used to be pretty popular. As usual, I must thank the TV Tropes website for this excellent recommendation. If you want to find cool shows to watch, they're the place to turn.
As a 7 episode OVA series trying to adapt a 40 volume manga (though to be fair it wasn't anywhere near finished when this adaptation started), I think it's pretty hard to overstate just how incoherent and rushed the whole thing was. It would've been so much better as a 26 episode anime, but, well, television censorship and whatnot. The mangaka behind this was apparently also involved in pornographic works. And it kind of shows here (though nothing too bad).
The amount of blood in this was overly gratuitous. Got old really fast. Same shut-eyed teenage boy being made into a gory punching bag for whatever tentacled monster he came across, rinse, lather, and repeat thirty seconds later until he somehow ends up winning.
I thought it was messed up enough already that "Pai" was the product of Parvati going senile but oh my, she was
all of the second part. I did not see that coming. They picked a really great VA for her character though.
Second part is better than the first by far. But if you're going to give it a try you have to start with the first part.
"I know that some unkind declarations were made, of rash vows and unspeakable things"
"But don't you know? When the rain lets up, you'll find that we belong to each other still."
"Apologies? What is that between us? Words cannot bridge what words could not break."
"Let's wipe the gunk off our clothes, the warm trails from our cheeks, and smile once again."
