Seriously? "Gay" can refer to both?

It's like Ako said:
Lesbian = girlxgirl
Gay = guyxguy
Homosexual = either
But "gay" has kind of become the catch-all for it.

Re: Today's Weird Stories...
So, "guy" can mean both male only and both? Or it means male only, but is used for both in slang? Or does it truly mean male only, and nom's classmates were right? (Not to mention it seems likely they talked Swedish to begin with, so unless Swedish is like English in this point, they made no mistake anyway)PhoenixTears wrote:"Gay"Callid wrote: Seriously? Not to mention that, IIRC, , a while ago, you taught me that "guy" could refer to a female as well, so...

and I don't doubt that I did, but when did I say that? I may have said "guys" can refer to groups that may or may not have females in it, but generally you don't call one girl a guy.

Callid, you can understand all of this pretty well if you just watch some US shows (I suggest comedy) without german dubbing.
"guy" in singular can't refer to a female. "She" basically can't be a guy (unless you know some stuff about "her" that we don't know)Callid wrote: Not to mention that, IIRC, , a while ago, you taught me that "guy" could refer to a female as well, so...![]()

malexmale OR femalexfemale = gay
malexmale, BUT NOT femalexfemale = gay
males AND females = guys
therefore: females = guys
one male = guy
one female != guy
So, nom is not a guy, but nom and Kain are guys, yet I am a guy on my own, and nom and me are also guys, as are Conia and me.
Also, ParkurxAkonyl (XD) and Shinxalice are gay pairings, but in another meaning of gay, ParkurxAkonyl is still a gay pairing, but Shinxalice isn't.
Is that correct?

Re: Today's Weird Stories...
here's the main thing: It's conversational english. It's not an exact science.
Some people might never refer to a group with even one girl as "guys" and instead just call them "people", whereas some people might just call everyone guys, regardless if there's not even a male in the room. Some people may even refer to inanimate objects as guys.

Well, yeah, but you could say that "those guys" are doing something and refer to a group of girls with no real problem. It's just meant to be sort of vague. XDAbs. wrote: ^ Except that you can't say "nom and Kain are guys" because that's still confusing.

Re: Today's Weird Stories...
Right before my dad's last class for the day started, one of the girls was telling us about something that happened to someone on her hall (in a dorm, of course). The girl had a pet snake for quite some time, and she pretty much treated it like a pet dog (feeding it, sleeping with it, etc.). One day, she thought the snake was acting unusual, and tried to find out what was causing the change of behavior. It turns out that the snake was sizing itself up to the girl to see how much longer it had to grow to eat her.
