If there's any file to break with this tradition, it's File 1000. It's not often a manga reaches four digits, in terms of File/Chapter count. And it's gonna be the last time DC rolls the digit counter over, in terms of File/Chapter count.

I think that people get themselves too hyped for things like this. I'm expecting nothing more than some kind of London arc conclusion. Maybe some other return cameos, maybe a new location for a case, maybe some plot hints, but nothing brand new.

File 800 had a similar chapter count down, but it still boiled down to just a gathering of plot suspects and suspecting all of them, but honestly that wouldn't really work that well with the kinds of things going on in this arc and the promise of Shinichi.
I hope that I can find someway to contribute to the community even if it's just random crack theories and looking things up for people who can't find the information they need.

Likewise. That's really the only development I can imagine (currently) for the Shinichi/Ran relationship front (that Gosho may be willing to go for).

Considering that Gosho said in Singapore that he thinks the story is more interesting and funnier with Ran not knowing Conan's identity, the people who people who hope for something to happen on that front either didn't hear about that statement or are slightly delusional. Though I really don't know many people who hope that or hope for more than just ShinRan development. Most likely we're getting Ran's answer and Shinichi appears again for that, which are two things I really look forward to, but more than... doubt it and Gosho has been rather upfront about that. Though again, I have not seen many people who are seriously hyped for more than that.

My view is that this is not just a countdown, but a countdown to File 1000. That's why I'm expecting bigger things than usual to happen in it, even by slow paced DC standards (2007–present).

About half a year after File 800 (the last time there was a countdown, right?), the Bourbon arc ended. If the Rum arc doesn't end with the case that includes File 1000, then my first guess is that it will conclude about half a year after that (early 2018, at the latest).

?
half a year = 6 months = 24+ weeks = roughly 24 chapters.
800 + 24 = File 824 (Mystery Train)
Bourbon arc end = File 898 ...
...I'm assuming you meant first climax?

Ah, that's right—the pre-Mystery Train part of the Bourbon arc ended at 824/704. My bad.

Point is, half a year after Detectives' Nocturne (796–800/671–674), we got Mystery Train (818–824/701–704). Meaning, if, for example, the BO isn't the focus of the case that will include File 1000 (that is, they'd be the focus alongside Shinichi and Ran), then it may be the focus, instead, of a case that comes out half a year after File 1000.

I’m not so sure about that. Under normal circumstances, the writing seems too formulaic to allow deviations like Mystery Train, which arrived outside the File X00 pattern despite being more significant than the two File X00 cases Department Store Bomber Case and Detectives’ Nocturne, and arguably being even more significant than those two combined. I’m fairly convinced that, if it hadn’t been for the rather spontaneous addition of the Akai family that caused months of nothingness after the Department Store Bomber Case and made the overall structure somewhat unbalanced, we wouldn’t have seen an organization-related happening in what inside of Aoyama’s system feels like the middle of nowhere, whether or not Mystery Train in any form had been part of the original schedule. That they did publish it then and there, however, makes me think that Scarlet Showdown had been supposed to be released around File 900 right from the start, meaning that the Bourbon arc might have been designed with something like a 200+100 arrangement in terms of chapter numbers and Mystery Train having been inserted at that unusual place as the real but delayed File 800, because Aoyama already knew that his work would reach the thousands and that he for that reason wanted to focus on Ran and Shinichi in File 1000 after laying the foundations around File 750.

While I’m aware this implies the bold claim that there won’t be any major development in the Rum arc before File 1100, I honestly wouldn’t be too surprised if the series continued prioritizing other elements and solely delivered further bits and pieces of relevant stuff until File 105X triggers whatever follows around File 1100. In a way, we’re still in the Bourbon arc—there could be a confrontation between Akai and Bourbon as we would have preferred it around File 900 without anything about Rum or yet another teaser. Rei Furuya’s past, specially his connection to the Miyano family, is still vague—if the rumors that the twenty-second movie will be about him and the police are true, there might be that to support it, and when we’re there, how about another message from Elena, all that possibly without any direct consequences for the present? Mary is still far from trusting Conan in any way whatsoever, so there could be even more than one interlude before they face each other. Hyoue Kuroda, Kanenori Wakita and Rumi Wakasa are still relatively new, so Aoyama could easily go on dropping one hint per appearance every few weeks without revealing much. The Kouji Haneda murder is still blurry and could be postponed or even be resolved without immediate effects, for example around File 1050. Supposedly unrelated characters such as Chikara Katsumata, Sakurako Yonehara and Shuukichi Haneda have still contributed next to nothing, should they play a role at all. Basically everything about the fuss with Momiji is still to come, and I’m afraid it will very soon since I can’t imagine a hard transition from extensive lovey dovey to Rum even if the anime is this summer probably going to be on fire in that respect, and if we’re so gullible to believe that Ran and Shinichi will actually share a kiss in the near future, having Heiji and Kazuha doing the same shortly afterward wouldn’t be too far-fetched from my point of view. Not to mention that Kaitou Kid and other outsiders will still show up inbetween for a change.

What I’m trying to express is that Aoyama now has every possibility to just skip the seemingly confirmed plot material around File X00 and to keep moving at a snail’s pace as most mainstream readers won’t care and others like us will have enough of a basis for discussion anyway. There are so many pending story lines that as little as one case per component is enough to bridge the time until around File 1050 or even longer, and I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t even be that conspicuous because the fragmented status quo doesn’t necessarily call for something that would qualify as a File X00 case, but recommends additional snippets in order to prepare one.

Having said that, I’ll be happy to be disproved.

I'm personally not in rush for a climax/answers just yet(other than an update on Rum's goal), so I'd be happy to just keep going with this wonderful pacing, and as u said, get further hints about the current mysteries and Rum arc characters consistently, until we reach 1050 and 1100 mark.

Generally, I think that something significant (plot and/or character and/or longer case (Over 3 Files/Chapters)) happens around every 50 Files—therefore, something significant (plot and/or character and/or longer case (5+ Files/Chapters)) happens around every 100 Files (and especially post-Conan arc (1–175/1–128), and even more so post-Haibara arc (176–237/129–175)).

But on File 1000—DC's not gonna reach 5 digits, in terms of File/Chapter count, so this is the last time the digit counter, in terms of File/Chapter count, will flip over. So that makes me think it's going to be an atypical file, and thus, an atypical case. Now how atypical? I'm hoping it's a long case in which multiple threads are tackled and addressed. If there's gonna be a tradition-breaker, in terms of Files/Chapters, I'd think this'd be an obvious one.
