Nope, didn't go with the move I was thinking of, but maybe this was a better decision.

Considering the material, the amount of pawns the difference increases is the same. I lose also only one pawn this way. (Rook = 5 pawns; Bishop = 3 Pawns. Rook - Pawn - Bishop = 1 Pawn; Bishop - 2 Panws = 1 Pawn)

Thanks. As Callid pointed out, it's just a 1 point advantage in the end, but every little bit counts.Umandsf wrote: That was the move I was thinking. Nice pin.

What's the notation for a rook? I assumed "R", but it looks like you used "T" earlier. If it is "T", why?

Probably T for Tower, but I see R used more often. This is turning out to be quite the game.

Well, the detective inside me tells me it is "T" for "Turm", the German word for the rock chesspiece.Umandsf wrote: Probably T for Tower, but I see R used more often. This is turning out to be quite the game.
My evidence: in turn 15, when Callid wrote the move with Bishop (B) with "L" instead. That too is used in German notation and means "Läufer".
But yeah, in english you would use the "R" for rock.

Indead... wow, since I only heard that word I was sure it would be "rock", like a stone. Didn't know it was written differently.Umandsf wrote: Um, "rook," not "rock." :p

Sorry...
I'm used to write with the German abbreviations, and sometimes use them unintenionally. I also used "D" (Dame) instead of Q, but noone noticed. And, athough I might be wrong, isn't rook pronounced like root and therefore different from rock?
