Also, since there are also no case characters introduced aside from the victim even in the full chapter, it may indeed be a longer case.

It's not that unusual that we get introduced to case characters in the second chapter of a three parter(like File 815-17), but that usually means that the case mystery won't be as complicated(for Conan at least) and the motives are usually simple(due to them not needing panel/page space)

I'm aware of that of course, but it doesn't look like a simpler case so far.

Technically, Gosho only said to the question "What about ShinRan development? (Ran's reply)" a simple "Wait for File 1000". While some of a things you said are highly likely guesses, he didn't confirm anything and he certainly didn't say "File 1000 will be all about Ran's reply and Shinichi might appear".

It's true that several postcards points towards a Shinichi comeback in file 1000 but I think we're getting ahead of ourselves.

I think the old man is just that, a mere blind old man who's fond of kendo and likes to hang around to hear the sounds of the tournament since he relies more on his hearing now.

As for the killer not being a student, it's possible because this happens during lunch break and someone could sneak into the changing room and steal a kendo suit without the others noticing if they are having lunch elsewhere.

As for the killer in the case I think we'll have 3 suspects. Because the old man said something about hearing 2 other people go in the toilet and after that, no other person has passed him. (If I remember it well)
And I am looking forward to the Momiji and Iori. I hope they will have bigger roles in the case. And if Momiji is going to the tournament herself and Iori is there, do you think Conan could notice them? I know that he hasn't seen any of them before (Iori was in disguise) so he would have no reason. But I kinda hope he will notice something like suspicious behaviour of any of them. (Because Heiji will probably have his first meeting with her in the movie)

why don't we just consider 永見 (Eimi/Emi/Nagami), Heiji's opponent, and 吉本(Kishimoto/Yoshimoto), Okita's opponent, as case suspects?
Although 吉本 was taken out on a stretcher, the victim seems to be standing in frame with 吉本 on page 4.
Maybe the victim is his kendo teacher? the victim name box did not give a job title.

As for the weapon, it seems unlikely to be a box cutter since the culprit saying that out loud would
be stupid and anyone caught with one would be suspected, although the weapon probably is small and sharp.
After the culprit realized the old man was blind, he probably just started talking to himself out loud
to make it seem like there was an accomplice.

Did anyone else notice the dirt/smudge (blood?) on the victim's collar just before he got killed? It was, then, covered by his blood after the crime.

I also wonder what is the importance of the pack of gum/candy that the victim took right before it happened.

Huh, you're right, there is a smudge under and on his collar, consistent over multiple panels. Nicely spotted.
But yeah, the medicine and that smudge oughta be relevant somewhere down the line of this case.

Yes, I think so. He might be a referee or a teacher given how he was in the arena.

I suppose that will be specified when the police arrive into the scene unless Okita recognizes him before that.

Regarding the motive, it could be that the killer was disqualified before for some cheating and is the stupid type who won't admit to it and will take it out on the referee / teacher trying to say it made their career crumble or something like that.

We'll have to wait and see, though.

The referee seems to be the guy with the flag, while the victim seems more interested in Okita's opponent directly

yeah..!! going through the file right now.. we again have 3 suspects and well.. there seems to be some sort of argument with the victim with one suspect. The only thing that i am thinking of is the reason of the culprit to kill the victim. If we had a particular reason or atleast what did the victim did(profesionally) would had been much better. We see Hattori and Okita having some sort of convo. which i cannot know until yunnie translate. but yeah.. i don't think the case will be a 3-file case, it could be, nonetheless as for what would we have in 1000, well as far as i have seen from various sources(japanese postcards,chinese on baidu) it seems 1000 will be a love case rather a BO case, and that makes me sad. well lets see what do we have in store for us.
