Reminded me of Daleks in Manhattan :-X. Though, the Angel-Manhattan episode is s'posed to be the episode where...
Spoiler:
Amy and Rory exit. Because of that, I think the focus might be more on the emotional side than 'scariness', though if Moffat can pull off something as good as Blink because the companions may actually die, that'd be awesome. I'm doubtful...
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/docto ... telly.html
Why is it always Manhattan anyway? Angels take Paris or Edinburgh or Moscow, that'd be cool. A city that actually has centuries-old statues all over the place that can TURN OUT TO BE ANGELS REALLY. That'd be creepy awesome.
Moffat will make another asspull with the angels and be like "oh, those ones on the planet were in better shape than the ones on Earth back in the Blink episode so they were more powerful, but there are still more powerful ones! And these ones can just look like people instead of turning to stone!"

but a more plausible thing: Angels could take over the giant screens in Times Square (in some unexplained manner) and just have them show pictures of angels, for the whole "an image of an angel" effect.

While I realize this has always been, to varying degrees, the name of the game for Doctor Who, I have to say I haven't been impressed with Moffat's brand of them over the past two series. :P

Here's hoping I like season 7 better, though.

Not the best start to a new series...
Spoiler:
Daleks aren't the most original and the Asylum thing was out of nowhere. Nothing like that has been hinted before with any versions of the Daleks that I've seen, though it made a decent premise, I guess...
Got to say I saw the plot twist with her being converted at least partially a mile away and didn't think it was pulled off too well. Still nice idea though.
Other than that, the wiping the Dalek's memory of the Doctor seems like an obvious set-up for later Dalek episodes, which hopefully will be better.
Could've been worse, but didn't find this episode to be particularly interesting.
Next episode I've not checked spoilers for, but considering the actors in the trailers, it has potential :D.

Spoiler:
Okay, the episode started off giving me all the sads because I thought Amy and Rory's relationship had just quietly fallen apart, but then finding out why was a kind of "d'aawww!" moment.

Also, where the flying buggery did "The Predator" come from as the Doctor's nickname? Seriously, when was that ever a thing? "The Oncoming Storm" was nice and ominous enough!

The asylum was kind of outta nowhere, but I admit that the concept of Daleks considered crazy even by Dalek standards sounded a bit scary. Didn't get as much mileage out of it as I'd hoped.

Interested in the memory of the Doctor being erased from the Dalek race as a whole. They must have records of him, surely? But apparently not. Could be a setup for getting That Question out and about.
Anyway, the preview for the next episode... did I see Inspector Lestrade as Space Indiana Jones?

Awesome.

Spoiler:
it's pretty likely, I'd say. Although they'ev re-used actors/actresses in the past (Martha Jones was in an episode in the season before she was a companion), I doubt they'd re-use them during the same season.
as for the episode:
Spoiler:
"why don't you just kill them yourselves?"
"because we don't want to exterminate such beautiful hatred."

"the forcefield's dow-- EXTERMINATE THE ENTIRE PLANET"

lolwat :V

also, the idea that a forcefield, made so that the daleks on the planet couldn't get out, had its trigger inside the forcefield, is... horrible writing, to say the least.

and what exactly on that planet was such an imminent threat that the daleks would be all "saaaaaaaave ussssssssss dooooooctooooooor" about it? It was just a bunch of old daleks sitting around, and a human dalek playing music.
all in all, I liked the episode, but those inconsistencies stood out to me. I also like how distinctive Nefertiti's hat is, that as soon as the next ep preview started, I was like "oh hey, it's Nefertiti!"

Spoiler:
Arc words of the season:
Oswin: Run, you clever boy... and remember  <-- She was looking at the camera when she said this.
Daleks: "Doctor who?"

Also using the new companion of the series early in the episode as a different person seems to me like an obvious setup. These two could be related somehow.

Spoiler:
Yeah, the Daleks were... inconsistent to say the least. Not that rationality or sanity have ever been their selling points, but still... Possibly they were scared of Oswin? She was in heavy lockdown and clearly very powerful, to erase the Doctor from all of their memories.

Also, despite her self-delusion Oswin was waaaaay too crazy clever. Curious to see if they ever meet her earlier in her timeline and oh god no not another River Song "we keep meeting in the wrong order and the Doctor's going to angst about it the whole time because he's already seen you die" deal, please.

Spoiler:
Yeah, well, some things were weird in this episode. At first I thought Oswin was a tiny human in a dalek helmet, and then it turns out she's one of them. I didn't understand why the Doctor hated her so much when he saw she was really a dalek, she helped them from the start, and didn't understand what she was.
Rory and Amy divorcing because she can't have children, seriously guys?? Why didn't they talked about it before? If it's not a problem for Rory, then there shouldn't be a problem between them...anyway!

He never actually saw 'her' though and the name of the new companion still hasn't been revealed so~

And, someone else mentioned this awesome idea which is unlikely, but I'd love so much:

Rory insists it's not a problem, but Amy can't help feeling like she's depriving him and that he'd be better off without her. As long as he didn't know that was how she was feeling, it was easy for him to fall back into the old fears that she didn't really love him and in her high-flying celebrity model life she was bored of him now, and with all he's done for her it would be easy to feel bitter. And Amy let him, because then it would be easier for him to let her go.

Doctor: "Naaaaaaaaaaaah!"
Also, @ Stop: I think I would kind of love it if that happened.

A point about the episode:

In this episode, Jenna-Louise Coleman played Oswin Oswald - however that's not the name of the companion that she's going be playing while traveling with the Doctor. In the Christmas special she has the name
Spoiler:
Clara
and the story she is introduced in is set in
Spoiler:
Victorian times.
We know the setting from many of the "leaked" pictures of her and other guess stars in costume during filming.

We've known the name (or at least I've known) for a while. It was reported on Den of Geek a couple of months ago but then it was just considered to be a rumor. The link in the posts above gives it a bit of confirmation, but it'll really be confirmed when the BBC puts it out. As of now they haven't officially said anything, but you know how these things leak out.

Funny, but they seem to be getting into a pattern of selecting new companions from previous episodes.

Freema Agyeman appeared in "Army of Ghost" / "Doomsday" before she became companion Martha Jones the following year ('Smith and Jones"),

Catherine Tate appeared in "The Runaway Bride" before she became a companion during the 4th season - however she did play the same role (Donna Noble),

Karen Gillan was in "The Fires of Pompeii" before she was cast as companion to the 11th Doctor in "The Eleventh Hour".

And they seem to be following the same pattern with Jenna-Louise Coleman this year - first appearing in "Asylum of the Daleks" and becoming a companion in Christmas.

It makes sense to give an actress a trial run before giving her a long-term commitment on a show. I think Jenna-Louise Coleman's the first one to have been confirmed as a companion before she appeared in another role, though.

(Also, Firefly marathon last night makes the term "companion" take on a somewhat different meaning : x)

I understand a trial run but in the same series? That just screams plot devices everywhere.
